All Liteon (74850, 83850, 93450) Firmware/Key Dump – Update

Earlier we reported on the controversial news posted at Xboxhacker.net that the backdoor for dumping all Liteon drives firmware had been made public however it involved removal of epoxy resin and the lifting of pins – so obviousley not for the beginner and was a sure way to see the forums flooded with "OMGZZZ I FuX0ReD MY DR1VE" posts.

MRA from Xboxhacker.net has now posted an updated method which requires no epoxy removal, no lifting of pins and just a very small amount of soldering. Again not fior beginners but it opens the doors for a lot more people to be able to have a crack at this themselves. We should add (the obvious) that using a fiber glass pen will remove the surface resin/flux from the PCB giving you a nice easy contact to solder to.

No pin lifting or epoxy removing needed anymore! Just solder anything on the back according to this picture.
Also if you got status 0×52 instead of 0×72 with the "1,8V-method" this should do it. I already dumped 4 drives with this method without any issues.

  • switch in pos 1
  • power drive
  • start Dosflash –> SPI should get recognized with status 0×72
  • put switch in pos 2
  • click "read"
  • unsolder anything and reconnect the lines that have been cut.
