Instructions

Here is the method to do a full dump of your Liteon drive using the CK3 Probe II (MRA) Method. This has been tested working on ALL drives including 83850 v2 & 93450 (it works on the older 74850, 83850 v1 but there is no need to do an MRA dump of those drives – it's already proven that the laser calibration data was just manufacturer data and does not have any bearing on the fw at all) – including BOTH the MXIC & WINBOND chipsets (Some competitors products do not have the Probe v1 function, do not have the Multi-R switch and do not have circuit protection – so be aware of the differences before you purchase.)

Recommended Tools (Sponsored by ModTraders)

CK3 Pro: http://www.modtraders.co.uk/xecuter-ck3pro-rev-d.html
CK3 Probe II: http://www.modtraders.co.uk/xecuter-ck3-probe-v2.html
Fiberglass Scratch pen: http://www.modtraders.co.uk/xecuter-fiberglass-scratch-pen.html
Xacto Knive Set: http://www.modtraders.co.uk/16pc-xacto-style-knive-set.html

Before you use the CK3 Probe II we recommend that you make sure your PC SATA setup is working correctly. So connect the CK3 Pro to the DVD drive and connect the SATA cable to your SATA card/motherboard and check Jungle Flasher to see if there is any communication. If all is well this is what it should look like:

We are assuming that you have opened up your Liteon DVD drive and taken the PCB out ready for the procedure.

1. This is how you connect the CK3 Probe II to the CK3 Pro. Make sure the OP Switch is in the UP position and switch the mode to MRA. If you power on the CK3 Pro you will see that the CK3 Probe II BLUE POWER LED is on and the MRA GREEN NORMAL LED is on (IF the RED LED is Lit, OP-Switch is in WRONG position!). This shows that everything is functioning. You should now turn the CK3 Pro power OFF.

MULTI-R SWITCH: We recommend you switch to 20. Only use 18 or 22 if you cannot get into vendor mode.

2. Ok now for the pain in the ass part. You have to cut traces on the PCB. The cuts are small and not difficult to do. Most people use an Xacto knife or better still a small dremel tool. We also strongly recommend you use a fiberglass scratch pen and clean up the 2 pads around the via holes to make the Probes contact better.

TOP TIP: Clean the traces with a Fiberglass Scratch Pen BEFORE you do any cuts – Gives you better visibility of what your cutting and the pads are less fragile whilst still joined to the trace. For those who waste time making posts saying "Do I need a Fiberglass scratch pen" – You have proved that you didn't read this tutorial

There are two methods you can use for cutting the traces. The first is the V-Cut.

Make 2 small cuts where the yellow lines are. You can use a continuity tester to make sure that the cut is clean.

This is what a clean trace cut should look like:

Here is the second method. It's a little easier but you'd have to solder a small jumper wire as per the following image (you can still use our conductive glue to do this when its available). You can use a continuity tester to make sure that the cut is clean:

3. Now take the CK3 Probe II and place the points onto the marked red and green positions. The Probe's pins are clearly marked. Remember at this stage the power to the CK3 Pro should be OFF.

4. Now turn the CK3 Pro power switch to on. You will now see the CK3 Probe II BLUE POWER LED come on and also the MRA GREEN NORMAL LED come on.

5. Using the latest Jungle Flasher (v0.1.73 at time of press) refresh the I/O port. you should see the DVD drive properties if everything is connected and setup correctly. This is also an indication that your SATA is setup correctly. You may need to select another I/O port then return to the correct I/O port for it to show properly.

6. Press the Intro/Device ID Button.

7. Now Click Yes, then push the OP Switch on the CK3 Probe II down. The MRA R/W LED should be RED (If it doesn't go Red don't worry just carry on through the steps – everything will work as normal)

Note: The Red R/W LED not working may indicate the pull down is on the weak side. Every effort was taken to bias the red led off point at the optimum voltage for MRA. This optimum is the point that guarantees a successful intro, w/o damaging your drive. It will not effect how the Probe 2 reads / writes the firmware in any way (You could also try a different resistor level too – that's a good indication of a weak pull down).

Note: Some users report that Turning OFF CK3 PRO first – OP SWITCH Down – THEN click YES – Turn ON CK3 PRO – switches to vendor mode more successfully. Either way could work for you.

8. You should now get Status 0×72 and you are in vendor mode. As soon as you see the flash chip properties switch the OP SWITCH up to Normal mode right away (GREEN NORMAL LED). Hold probes in place and dump firmware by pressing READ button, ONCE "save" button appears you can remove probe, power off CK3 and SAVE that OFW

(NOTE: If you have a Winbond IC you may see a warning to switch LT switch back to normal then press OK! Simply operate OP Switch to up position then click OK.)

If you don't get 0×72 then simply retrace your steps and try again (if you are using Windows x64 then 0×72 rarely kicks in the first time. Wait until it says failed, turn CK3 power off, click intro/ID, click yes then turn CK3 Pro on – 0×72 should kick in after a couple of seconds). We have done this process many hundreds of times and our testers have now done hundreds of consoles. When done correctly it works every time.

9. Once you have dumped the drive a couple of times to make sure the key is correct, simply follow erase and flash the drive while holding the CK3 Probe II in place – the whole process takes all of 30 seconds. No soldering of any PCB rebuilds required or any other messing about.

10. When finished, repair the traces with the conductive glue that is included with the CK3 Probe II (or use your own if you bought the early batch that wasn't included – or simply solder). You're good to go !

This tutorial was written by Team Xecuter. If you use anything from this tutorial please give credits and also a direct link to this page. Also if we have made any mistakes or left anything out please let us know – thanks !

Work Time: 20 Minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Tools Required: Xecuter Unlock Tool & Xecuter RROD Pro Repair Kit (Comes complete with Torx 10 & Torx 8 Screwdrivers, Allen Key, 8 Precision Designed Bolts, 8 Precision Cut Metal Washers, 8 Precision Cut Nylon Washers, 4 Thermal K-Pads & Hi-Quality Thermal Paste)
We also recommend that you get yourself some Arcticlean Thermal Grease Cleaning Kit – On Sale Here Only $8.95 for 60ml

First follow the guide for disassembling the Xbox 360 case and removing the motherboard.

1. Turn the motherboard over – this will be your work area [Pic 1a] What you are going to do first is remove the 2 large X-Clamps from the motherboard and replace with bolts that have been custom made for a precision fit on the Xbox.

[Pic 1]

2. Removing the X-Clamps is pretty easy using long nose pliers or a screwdriver. (Don't use one of the included Torx screwdrivers as you will strip the end). After all 4 corners have been loosened simply remove. Be careful not to touch the motherboard as you can damage the traces.

Here is a Video to show how to remove the Xclamps – thanks to Carwilej on Youtube

[youtube dDAW_tRiGTU nolink]

3. Now remove the GPU and CPU heatsinks from the motherboard [Pic 3a]. You will see the GPU and CPU exposed and will probably be quite dirty with old thermal grease [Pic 3b]. The best way to clean these is by using original Arcticlean Thermal Grease Cleaning Kit (On Sale Here)

[Pic 3a]

[Pic 3b]

4. Now remove the bolts from the heatsinks. There are 4 on each heatsink. They can be quite stiff so use a solid set of pliers or mole grips. GPU [Pic 4a] and CPU [Pic 4b].

[Pic 4a]

[Pic 4b]

5. Now to do some cleanup. The thermal grease on the heatsinks AND on both the GPU & CPU needs to be thoroughly cleaned. The best cleaner to use is the Arcticlean Thermal Grease Cleaning Kit (On Sale here). It's pretty hard and baked and is very difficult to remove if you don't use a proper cleaning kit. The Arcticlean is by Arctic Silver and is definatley the best you can buy (its only around $8.95 for 60ml – you can do quite a few Xbox's with that amount) This step is very important. The images show the components after they have been cleaned. [Pic5a, b & c]

[Pic 5a]

[Pic 5b]

[Pic 5c]

6. Now to apply some fresh thermal paste to the GPU / CPU (included with the RROD Pro Repair Kit) [Pic 6a] and connect the bolts / washers. We recommend that you do one heatsink at a time and working with the motherboard on it's side makes the job a little easier. When pushing the bolts through the motherboard make sure that the Nylon washer goes on the other side first and then the metal washer (against the heatsink)

So: BOLT – MOTHERBOARD – NYLON WASHER – METAL WASHER – HEATSINK [Pic 6b].

[Pic 6a]

[Pic 6b]

7. Use the included Allen key to tighten the bolts to the heatsink. Do it in order of opposite corners to get an even spread. Tighten the bolts as tight as they will go – they have been measured to perfection. Now repeat steps 6 & 7 for the other heatsink.

8. Now you need to stick the thermal K-Pads to the memory chips on the underside of the board – there should be four [Pic 8a]. If there is already a thermal pad there simply remove it and use the ones included in the kit. They are quite sticky so give them a firm push [Pic 8b].

[Pic 8a]

[Pic 8b]

[Pic 8c]

NOTE: If you have the new RROD Repair Kit Pro II, there will be two extra heatsinks for the ANA Scaler Chip and the Southbridge Chip. These are prevenative measures to help against any damage to these chips after you have done your repair. They will help stop most E74 errors.

9. Now carefully put the motherboard back into the Xbox chassis. Use the Torx 10 screws to firmly connect the motherboard (The Torx 8 X-Clamp screws are no longer needed). Connect the front power pcb, the fan and the DVD ROM (Don't connect the rest of the case together yet).

10. Now for the all important baking trick. Connect the Xbox Power supply and AV lead. Make sure the FAN power cable is UNPLUGGED at this stage. Now boot the console and leave it powered on until you get 2 red lights [Pic 10a]. As soon as this has happened power off the Xbox and connect the fan power cable to the motherboard. Leave it for 5 minutes and then power back up. If all went well your Xbox should now be repaired ! [Pic 10b]

[Pic 10a]

[Pic 10b]

How to install the new Xecuter Blaster CK3

Install Time: 10 Minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Tools Required: All tools are included in the package (Unlock Tool, Torx 10 Screwdriver)

What's In The Box?

Torx 10 Screwdriver

USB Cable (For Liteon 74850C Only)

RS232 Serial Cable (For Liteon 74850C Only)

SATA Exchange Unit

Blaster CK3 Probe (Liteon 74850C Only)

Step By Step Installation Tutorial

1. First, you need to take your Xbox 360 apart. If you don't know how to do this, read this guide. Once you have it taken apart disconnect the cables to the backside of the DVD and set it aside for the time being. Once you have removed the DVD you will see two cables plugged into the Xbox 360 motherboard. One is a Sata cable and one is the DVD power cable (this is the multi wired cable with a white adapter on the end). Remove both cables, you won't be needing those any more.

2. First install the Sata Exchange Unit (#10) to the metal case of the Xbox. You will notice that each connector is color coordinated to make installation as simple as possible. Peel the off the paper to expose the sticky foam insulated pad and attach to the metal case.

Xecuter Blaster CK3 SEU

3. Now take the Motherboard to DVD Cable (#8) and plug the white connector to motherboard, then you will see there are 3 cables with blue, white & green 2 pin adapters. Feed those through the case, they will connect to the Blaster CK3 later.

Xecuter Blaster Ck3 Power Cable Install

Xecuter Blaster Ck3 Power Cable Install 2

4. Now plug the green adapter from the Mother to DVD Cable (#8) into the back of the DVD drive. Make sure it is plugged in the correct way around. You will notice there is another cable with a 3 pin white adapter, this is for the Blaster CK3 Probe (#11) which is used only if you have a Liteon 74850C drive. This is a temporary connection and used only when you are going to extract the DVD key from that drive. If you have a Liteon 74850C DVD Drive then follow hook up the Blaster Ck3 as per this tutorial but do not put the case back together as you will need to take the back off the DVD drive and use the CK3 Probe in order to get your DVD key. This only needs to be done once – Probe information is at the bottom of this page.

Xecuter Blaster CK3 Green DVD Connector

5. Now connect the the L shaped connector of the Sata cable (#2) to the motherboard and connect the other straight end to the bottom port of the Sata Exchange Unit (#10). Then Connect the Sata Cable (#3) to the back of the DVD and to the top connector of the Sata Exchange Unit (#10)

Xecuter Blaster CK3 Sata

6. Now take the Sata Exchange Unit Cable (#9) and feed the cables through the case and connect the cables to the Sata Exchange Unit (#10). Everything is color coordinated so its really easy.

Xecuter Blaster CK3 SEU Cable

Xecuter Blaster CK3 SEU Cable External

7. Now place the DVD drive back into the case and route the cables so they fit neatly around the DVD, everything should fit comfortably.

Xecuter Blaster CK3 DVD Fitted

8. OK now that's pretty much most of the hard work done! Now reassemble the Xbox 360 case. Leave the side where the Blaster CK3 cables are showing through the case until last. First connect the top part of the case that covers the DVD drive area.

Xecuter Blaster CK3 Top Case

9. Turn the case over and insert the 6 screws you removed using the provided Torx 10 screwdriver.

Xecuter Blaster CK3 Bottom Case

10. Reconnect the eject button. Don't forget to do this or you will have to take the Xbox apart again at a later stage. Reconnect the other half of the case and clip the front down first, then clip the rear part of the case down. Connect the side panel to the case (NOT the panel that the Hard Drive would normally connect to – this is where the Blaster will be placed)

11. Turn the Xbox over to the side where the cables are showing. This is where we are going to connect the Blaster CK3.

Xecuter Blaster Ck3 External Cables

12. Connect the green, blue and white 2 pin cables and also the white block connector to the Blaster CK3. Make sure all connectors are plugged in the correct way around.

Xecuter Blaster CK3 PCB

Xecuter Blaster CK3 Connect

13. Plug the Blaster into the Xbox 360 chassis. Carefully connect the Blaster CK3 to the Xbox 360, you should not have to use any force and you should hear the clips "click" when connected correctly. Now reconnect the Xbox 360 front face plate and and then you can connect your hard drive if you have one.

Xecuter Blaster CK3 Fitted

14. Finished !

How to operate the Blaster CK3

The function of the Blaster CK3 is very simple. You have Xbox 360 mode and PC Mode. For the 360 to operate as normal as if the Blaster was not installed switch both switches to XB360 and move the power switch to off.

Xecuter Blaster CK3 Xbox Mode

When you want to write to your DVD drive simply push the main switch to PC and turn the power switch to ON (The Mode switch can be set to OFF – you can set Modeb via software on all Hitachi models using the latest Jungle Flasher – we have included a Modeb switch just in case someone requires it). Then connect the Xbox 360 power supply unit and you can now connect your Xbox to your PC using a Sata cable.

Xecuter Blaster CK3 Firmware Mode

You can use the Serial RS232 or the USB ports if you have the Liteon 74850C DVD drive. Otherwise you only need to use the Sata port.

Xecuter Blaster CK3 Ports

While the Blaster is functional it lights up green.

Xecuter Blaster CK3 Green Light

Blaster CK3 Vendor Mode (Half Tray Eject Trick):

The Liteon drive requires you to have the tray half ejected for it to kick into vendor mode in Jungle Flasher. This is a very simple trick where many many seem to mess up on and wonder why they get 0000000000 as a bad DVD key. The process with the Blaster Ck3 is simple:

Power on Xbox with Blaster Ck3 enabled in firmware mode.

Press eject on the Blaster Ck3 (Button is down)

Power off the Xbox 360

Press eject again on the Blaster Ck3 (Button is up)

Push the tray manually half way in

Power on the Xbox 360

Use Jungle Flasher to read the DVD key (make sure you use the included Probe Tool if you have a Liteon 74850C)

Warning

DO NOT connect the USB cable if you don't have a Liteon 74850C DVD drive and DO NOT use the Blaster CK3 Probe on a Liteon 83850C or 93450C DVD Drive – you may cause damage to your Xbox Drive and Blaster CK3.

Blaster CK3 Probe:

The Probe is used when you have a Liteon 74850C DVD Drive – DO NOT use the Probe or USB/Serial cable on ANY other Liteon drive !!!

The Probe cable is connected to the DVD Green Block connector. It is a white 3 pin adapter. Make sure you connect the probe to the correct point on the DVD motherboard. When powered and connected the Probe will show a Green & Blue LED. if you touch an extra ground or voltage on the DVD drive you may cause damage to the Probe so please be careful. You only have to do this once. As soon as you have your key using Jungle Flasher you can unplug the prbe and put your Xbox back together.
