Hitachi 32/36/40/46/47/58/59 Firmware Update Using The CK3

This tutorial was written by Team Xecuter. If you use anything from this tutorial please give credits and also a direct link to this page. Also if we have made any mistakes or left anything out please let us know - thanks !

The official forum thread for this tutorial is HERE

If you have one of the Pre-07x Hitachi drives (32/36/40/46/47/58/59 etc) then you will be happy to know that this is probably the absolute easiest way to update the firmware on your Xbox 360. In fact its so easy it's embarrassing :)

We will assume that everyone is using the latest iXtreme Firmware by C4EVA (don't bother using anything else). At the time of writing the version of this firmware was iXtreme1.4 (Filename on Xbins: iXtreme1.4_Hitachi.rar) (We are told that v1.5 is coming soon and we will update this page as and when that happens)

The instructions are the same for both the Connecivity Kit 3 Pro & Lite - however you have the choice to use a Sata Card (Recommended version is the VIA 6421) or the Xecuter X360 USB

We will describe the method when using the X360 USB, however the SATA method is pretty much the same. The instructions are also the same for both the CK3 Pro & Lite.

1. We are first assuming that you have dissasembled your 360 and removed the DVD drive, If you haven't yet follow this tutorial. Connect power from the CK3 to the Hitachi DVD using the green power cable (make sure the connections are the right way around - there are guides on the connectors to help you - plug in the wrong way around and you will damage the drive - remember its a power cable). Connect a molex power source to the CK3 (to be safe make sure the CK3 power switch is set to OFF). Connect the SATA cable from thee Hitachi DVD to the X360 USB and then connect the USB cable from the X360 USB to your PC. Now turn the CK3 power switch to ON and press the Modeb switch so the LED is RED. To check the power cable is working press the eject switch twice so that the tray ejects. this will show that the drive is in Modeb and that all connections are correct. See Image1 to show how everything should look.

2. Your PC should now pick up the drive. The guide assumes you are using Windows XP. Click on My computer to see the new drive. You will need to make a note of the drive letter (see Image 2) You can also check device manager (Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager) See Image 3.

3. Now we are read to flash the drive. First copy the iXtreme folder to somewhere convenient on your PC (we copied the folder to the C:\ drive). Now double click onto the folder to view the files. See Image 5.

4. If you have ever had the drive flashed before you will first need to restore it. Simply click on RESTORE.BAT (See Image 6). If this is the first time your drive has been flashed skip to Part 7.

Image 6

5. When you see the window as in Image 7, simply enter the drive letter of the 360 DVD that you noted in Part 2 (In this case the drive letter is D)

6. The 360 drive will now be restored to its original state. See Image 8.

Image 8

7. Now we will show you how to flash the drive. Double click on FLASHIX.BAT (See Image 9)

Image 9

8. You need to enter the drive letter of the 360 DVD that you noted in Part 2 (In this case the drive letter is D), the disc speed that you require (we used 8x speed) and the 3 letter backup folder (we used 123). See Image 10.

So the process in this example is D <enter>, 8 <enter, 123 <enter>

Image 10

9. As soon as you press enter after entering the backup folder name the drive will start flashing (See Image 11). Do not interfere with your computer or any hardware while the drive is flashing. If your PC powers off or if a cable comes loose it may damage your 360 DVD drive.

10. Success !!!!
