How To Rip Games Using Original Xbox Drive & 0800 Firmware *UPDATED FEB 17TH 2011*

I found a copy of that file that the error was saying I was missing and dropped it in the same folder as xbc. Now XBC starts up fine but when I'm in device manager and put my liteon into vendor mode Windows XP SP3 (32bit) doesn't find it.

I'm using the blaster ck3 for the connection via sata

So just having the drive on and connected to the xbox/blaster AND PC via SATA should have the drive turning up in device manager and detectable by XBBC to rip games?

Because what you say seem to contradict what the following statements in the tutorial...

"Connecting your drive to the pc.

To start connect your DVD Drive & CK3 (Pro, Lite or Blaster) to your PC as you would if you were flashing your drive"

"Eject the tray to the half way position and power off the CK3"

So with using the blaster wouldn't that mean...

first putting the switches into firmware mode
then powering on the xbox/blaster,
pressing eject (on the blaster)
powering off the xbox/blaster
placing the eject button into the up position
pushing the drawer half way in
and then powering the xbox/blaster back up

What am I missing or misunderstanding?

So I just tried not putting the liteon in vendor mode and connecting it to my pc via the blaster sata connection. It's still not being detected. Now some one else, (who was being quite condescending and ignorant in another thread of mine) mentioned that I shouldn't have my via drivers installed and enabled. Is this true? Because the tutorial says the via card should be enabled with the drivers to rip games.

So I'm still spinning my wheels here. I'm not sure if there's maybe something wrong with the blaster. I mean jungleflasher can detect the drive when connected to the blaster so I don't think it's a connectivity issue.

But just to be clear, when following the ripping tutorial, should my blaster be connected to my PC by way of the SATA cable connected to the VIA card, correct? Can some one verify if the VIA card should have the driver enabled or disabled?

The tutorial for ripping says enabled but some people seem to think the driver should be disabled.

I was under the impression that just by virtue of having flashed my drive to LT and then placing it into firmware flashing mode that that puts a liteon into 0800 vendor mode or am I misunderstanding this instruction in the tutorial

"YOU DO NOT NEED SPECIFIC 0800 FIRMWARE TO RIP THIS WAY IF YOU USE iXtreme v1.6+ (0800 mode is built into ix 1.6 onwards)"

Ixtreme LT for liteon is 1.7, correct?

Are you saying I have use jungleflasher to flash my liteon to 0800 fw and then proceed with ripping tutorial?

Now when the instructions say...

I take this to mean that I set my blaster's switches to match the "firmware mode" (from the "How to install blaster ck3" tutorial) with the SATA connecting between the blaster and the VIA card.

Then when the tutorial says...

"Note: ModeB LED should be BLUE not RED

Eject the tray to the half way position and power off the CK3

Power the CK3 back on and open Device Manager on your PC. (you can get to DM through Windows Control Panel)

I take that to mean I should disregard the modeB (doesn't relate to the liteon or blaster) instruction and then follow these directiosn from the "How to install blaster ck3" tutorial...


Blaster CK3 Vendor Mode (Half Tray Eject Trick):
The Liteon drive requires you to have the tray half ejected for it to kick into vendor mode in Jungle Flasher. This is a very simple trick where many many seem to mess up on and wonder why they get 0000000000 as a bad DVD key. The process with the Blaster Ck3 is simple:

1. Power on Xbox with Blaster Ck3 enabled in firmware mode.
2. Press eject on the Blaster Ck3 (Button is down)
3. Power off the Xbox 360
4. Press eject again on the Blaster Ck3 (Button is up)
5. Push the tray manually half way in
6. Power on the Xbox 360

Afterall that I should see the liteon in device manager, correct? Problem is I don't.

1.6 and 1.61 contained 0800 mode LT does not.

If you want to rip games you will need to flash 0800 firmware to your drive or 1.6 or 1.61.
Then you would need to flash back to LT.

Hope thats cleared up that.

So Martin was gracious enough to school me on the finer points of flashing firmware but we were both still stumped by why when my liteon is flashed with 0800 or 1.6 my drive still doesn't show up in device manager and is still not detectabel by XBBC

u want ur ss to be v2 some will come in as v1 and u will want to patch them and make sure that ur abgx settings are tweaked properly.... prior to lt is wasnt much of a concern as it is now since ur drive is no longer checking ur discs...

1= need to make sure all wave 4+ are ssv2 and i believe wave 3 as well i know that waves 1&2 are not really an issue just 3-6.

So if I have a fresh liteon flashed with LT and loaded a single back up game, without ssv2, once or twice offline...

is it likely I've still been flagged in some way that will be reported back to MS and probably get me banned?

Unfortunately, I'm new to fw modding and just flashed my first drive. To test it I accidentally loaded an old back up of mine that passed all the abgx tests but with only ss v1. Now I'm panicking!

Do you mean "patch" as in set Abgx to fix it to ss V2?And the files are available on the abgx server?
