[INFO] Incorrectly manufactured Probe(s) exist
Hey there. I received my Probe 3 earlier this week, when trying to use it today it did not work. It turns out that the problem was that the DVD-end of the cable had been fitted with the connector upside down. This means that when connecting the cable to the Drive using the correct peg-orientation it did not connect. After removing the pegs the cable could be inserted the right way.
In the first picture you can see the cable plugged in with the pegs in their slots, this results in the red side being up (ie wrong).
The second picture is of the Probe power cable with the green side up (ie correct way). As you might be able to see, the peg is in the upper green part but the DVD-drive opening for the pegs is in the lower area of the hole.
The third image is after I removed the pegs and inserted the cable the right way.
I just wanted to let you forumdwellers know that this could happen to you too, however unlikely. I just flashed a drive with this setup an hour ago so this is not a hoax or a joke or anything. The Following User Says Thank You to WretchedMink For This Useful Post:

Re: [INFO] Incorrectly manufactured Probe(s) exist
That could explain the problems some people seem to have.
The dude who wrote this post still thinks that MS pressed a tighter groove on the XGD3-DVDs :-)

Re: [INFO] Incorrectly manufactured Probe(s) exist
but when you are using the probe, the dvd drive will be upside down with the bottom off, then it will go in the right way

Re: [INFO] Incorrectly manufactured Probe(s) exist
But the cable must put in the drive the right way. Or else it won't fit.
So it doesn't mather when you place it upside down.

Re: [INFO] Incorrectly manufactured Probe(s) exist
Before I fixed the connector the CK3 would short circuit every time I plugged in the cable so it was definately faulty. Yes, there's only one way to insert it but I removed the pegs and could insert it the right way up.

Good job you are using the CK3 Pro with the built in protection or you would have had a fried PCB....

Yeah after buying all that stuff for a decent amount of money I would have hated to see it all destroyed. Thankfully it's all working.

Re: [INFO] Incorrectly manufactured Probe(s) exist
Did you contact the vendor for a replacement?
Was it a genuine TX product?
Did you buy it from a TX recommended seller?
Only asking because others will see this post now that it's been resurrected

Re: [INFO] Incorrectly manufactured Probe(s) exist
I might have contacted them but I never sent it back considering it was such an easy fix. It was bought from modtraders.co.uk so yes everything was legit. You might say I've been away.

Re: [INFO] Incorrectly manufactured Probe(s) exist
How ever possible that is am struggling to believe this because that would cause the drive pcb to blow. when you got the cable wired wrongly that would be the same as people that plug a correctly wired one in wrong way and it is reverse polarity causing some components to blow yet you never mentioned that. very strange.

Re: [INFO] Incorrectly manufactured Probe(s) exist
Yeah when i read that spec i just assumed it was referring to the ck3 side never crossed my mind it would cover the pcb side aswell lol. As a rule of thumb i have always double checked before powering on so never gotten the chance to test that feature pmsl
