Newbie guide for X2.6 and Xbox 1.6/1.6b

Hi guys,

Just installed my first 2.6 on my girlfriend's 1.6b xbox and everything is working just fine... except I think I flashed it with a 1meg bios and am getting FRAG now... Is there a way to reflash it or am I sunk?

You are suppose to flash with a 1 meg bios. But it is suppose to be comprised of 2- 512k bios' which is actually comprised of 2- 256k bios images itself. Confused? Did you use the x2bm to make the bios or did you just download it from somewhere? If so, you should have put the 256k file of FlashBios in banks 1&2, and then put the 256k of 4983(of rhe M8 bios for 1.6, which is what you have) which makes it 1 meg. Did you try switching banks? Are both banks fragging? Did you put the correct version of FlashBios for the 1.6b? The only options you have is to reprogram with a programmer, or if you know someone with another modded xbox with a 2.6 then you could hot swap(which is risky, but I have done it several times) by booting up his 2.6 and then reflashing via Evox (make sure the bios is in the bios folder on the xbox). A programmer... would I be able to buy one that works with x2.6? Also, which bios should I use if I can get this whole thing reprogrammed?

Yes you can buy a programmer, and if you read my post above, I told you which bios to use. http://shop.system-mods.com/index.as...ID=95&HS=1 go there or any other reputable modchip seller and you can get the programmer. You need to use the M8 bios with the 1.6. Make one like I said above with FlashBios and the M8.

Thanks for all your help. Just to be sure, I am flashing the chip with the Flash Bios in Banks 1 and 2 and the the 4983_67 256k bios in banks 3 and 4. Correct? :D

Not if you have a 1.6, you need to flash the Evox M8 bios in banks 3&4. (You stated above thats what you had). If you have a 1.0 - 1.5 then you will have it correct.

Now I have a 1.6b modded with a X2.6 and another 1.6 modded with an X3, both running the M8 Bios and Avalaunch. Thanks again :D

No problem. The x3 has a bios for the 1.6 though. I think it is X3 1959 and if I am correct, when you get it from the "usual places" it comes with a regular and a 1.6 version. I am not sure running the M8 on the x3 will allow you to do all the "bonus" functions that the x3 bios will (such as flubber color changing, etc.). Cool, I'll check that out. I have just installed the chip today so I'll do the bios tomorrow. I have a few spider chips that were flashed badly, is there a way to reflash them with the programmer or should i try hot swapping them?

I have a 1.6b and an xecuter 2.6 (boots to blank screen) in my searches I came across this quote, but the link is non existant because the forum has changed.. anyone have any suggestions?

Hi all

I have a v1.6 xbox fitted with the Xecure 2.6 chip.
THis was done by a shop. I have fitted the mobo, and plugged everything in.
When I turn the box on , it boots the Miscrosost Xbox logo, but with a "EVO X" logo inthe top L/H corner.
No matter what configuration of switch settings I try, I cannot get to the FlashBIOS screen

Any ideas?

I've modded alot of boxes over the last year and a half, but this is the first 1.6 i've had to deal with...

my question pertains to the newest version of the 2.6 chip, it came with an extra piece, and i have no clue what it is, and the xecuter site has no information on this...

anybody know what the hell, and where the hell this goes?

jigglypuff, the extra piece is to "Rebuild the LPC". Basically, Microsoft changed the wiring of the v1.6 Xbox. So what you need to do is "rebuild" or "rewire" the v1.6 xbox to work as if it was a v1.1-1.5 xbox.

You can either use that little extra piece to "rebuild" it...which makes life a bit easier, or else you can use individual wires to do it. It's up to you which method you use and are comfortable with.

The piece goes on the backside of the xbox mother board....line it up with the LPC header...and just solder the piece to the points. link from previous poster

hi, ive already moded a version 1.5 xbox with a 2.6lite, worked fine, followed your instructions for the 1.6 version xbox, started working fine, but! after i flashed it the xbox would flash green / red and not power up properly, i changed the 2.6lite chip with another one i had spare, it powered up fine again, but! shortly after flashing it, it started flashing green / red again, i have checked everything using your instructions my soldering is fine, no shorts anywhere, all wires soldered properly, now that i have used up 2 chips and dont want to mess up another what can i do to make sure it wont happen again, please message me back or email me lindenj_@hotmail.com thankyou

alright so i read that i shouldnt ask for bioses here but i just want to know if i need the Evox M8plus 1.6 for an xbox thats not a version 1.6
