Where can I pick up one of those pcb's from him? looks pretty sweet. Might have to get a PICkit and do some testing.

Digikey and Mouser have 'em: http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/248...-dm320011.html and http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...BFqhPFLg%3d%3d

Not cheap, but I assume once somebody figures out what's actually required off one of these things a custom PCB with the bare essentials could be made for around $15-$20.

$150?! just for the sound mod, I'll wait around for a custom pcb to be announced or created.

Yeah that was my reaction, I may work on it myself if I get some free time but I'm sure some mod team will catch wind of it and get something mass-produced. Personally I don't see the draw to it and would almost rather my Slim not even chirp on start-up, but I guess a lot of people would go for custom sounds.

Check posts #9 and #10, it's not the speaker, it's the onboard IC that's programmed with different clips, speaker is identical, chip is identical, data on chip is different between different editions.

Re: Dose anyone know what this is?

I've contacted Nuvoton. I'm waiting for their sales department to get back to me about pricing/purchasing the programmer.

Here's the initial response I received when asking about the hardware and software needed to program the ISD 2110's.

    ...We have
    - ISD-ES2100_MINI_PROG_Q -> a single socket QFN20 package programming board for ISD2100 device

Are you looking for QFN package programming board for ISD2100 series device, including 2110, 2130, etc? The board mentioned above is what you need.

GUI software ISD-VPE2100 is needed to program 2100 devices...

I would also love to do this mod.

On a side note, how to you guys learn how to develop these types of mods. I'm a Programming major and I don't really have time to go and take classes on it(maybe in a few years).

Looks like that software may be the more important part, I don't really think the programmer is going to turn out to be anything too special. Here's a datasheet on some of the electronics: http://media.digikey.com/pdf/Data%20...100DEMO_UM.pdf If I remember right that's a demo/dev board for the 21XX series, shows it interfacing to what I can only assume is a much larger development board that I haven't bothered tracking down just yet.

These are the demo boards that are in the datasheet's.

    ISD-ES15100_USB
    ISD-ES2130_DEMO

But he made no mention of them, and I specifically asked if these were required to program the chips. I believe the demo board is just that... it demos the chips capabilities... with play/record functions on the board.

I've installed the software... it'll require some understanding.

sounds like progress is being made then. I bought a MW3 console and had it for a month without opening it then one day decided I would try to dump the nand and check it out and was surprised by a Trinity motherboard in it. lol. if we can make an in expensive spi interface cable to read the chip I will read mine out and help out.

Is that software freely available from their site or did they email it to you? I wouldn't mind playing around with it myself, given I've probably got enough of a background to make some sense of it, may help out having another set of eyes.

Huh, that's interesting, maybe I'll try my luck grabbing a MW3 box soonish, always did like the case design. I have a feeling a generic SPI programmer will work to read/write these chips, just looking at the datasheets and such I really feel like the biggest hurdle is going to be understanding the programming software. And soldering/desoldering a 20-pin qfn, at least for soldering newbies.

They emailed it... requires a username and pass, otherwise I'd share. Send them an email, I received a reply within minutes.

Will do in the morning, thanks! Hopefully we can make some sense of the thing...was looking at my own Trinity board and I swear there's a header right next to the chip that connects up to it, but I haven't actually done continuity checks yet. J1G3 if anybody would like to poke at it some.
