Hello all

I've been modding my friends 360's for them for a bit now and am pretty good at it. But recently a buddy came to me with a Hitachi 0079fk :S

So I need to buy a modchip now. I'm planning on getting the Maximus 79 Passkey.

Now, I've never installed a modchip before but I figure I have to start somewhere. Are there any detailed guides out there for installing said chip?
And after I finally get the chip installed, how easy is it to flash the drive? Do I just follow the same steps as how to flash the 78 version?

Any response is appreciated :)

There are installation guides and pictures on the Maximus website. You really need some decent soldering skills to pull this off though, this is not a chip that you can really pick up and install with little to no soldering experience. The legs that you're soldering to are very tiny and very close together so it's pretty easy to solder to the wrong leg and/or bridge the connections.

That being said, if you can get the chip on and working it's basically the same as flashing a Hitachi 0078.

Hey I'm never one to tell someone not to try something, especially as long as they know the risks involved ahead of time which you do. ;)

Here's my advice though...don't make installing the 0079 Passkey your first attempt at soldering. Get the required supplies and tools as soon as possible and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE while you're waiting for the Passkey to arrive. If you have any old 56k modems or anything like that laying around that you don't need, use those. Just practice soldering to the little legs on one of the chips, since thats basically what you'll be doing on the 0079.
