LITEON DG-16D4S - SLIM 0401 kamikaze, open tray help!!!!

Flashed back to OFW, same problem.

I've read on another thread tho, that it's recommended to unplug the laser before doing the flashing procedure because there's a risk of burning the laser on LiteOn drives, which kinda looks like it happened to my drive (and yours).

Luckily, I have another drive which I ruined on my first attempt at doing a kamikaze hack (drilled to much to the left and the motor stopped spinning) and it's sitting around here somewhere. I'll try switching PCBs and see if it works (to check that the drive's laser is not burned) and let you know how it goes.

Maybe we didn't ruined the PCB, but burned the laser instead by not unplugging it when hacking/flashing it.

Well, I tried the extra DVD drive, still won't work. Tried BOTH PCBs, hole is right on spot, stopped drilling as usual, everything went OK, these are my 42nd and 44th modified Xbox.

The first Xbox slim I modified was a 03x0 so I sputnik'ed it, then all have have been 05x0 (I did get some Hitachi, but didn't even bother to open them so they don't count). The third and the fourth ones I modified got ruined (probably I got cocky), after that, 40 successful kamikaze hacks until these last to, so you can say I have experience doing them. The first two got ruined, it's evident, just by seeing it you know the holes are too big and off spot, but these last two look perfect, I'm checking with the digital microscope and it looks clean and on the spot... I'm baffled.

Motor spins, tray ejects, read/write is ok, log is perfect, but I get the "open tray" error...

I got the DVD drives from the ruined PCBs and tried them on a new Xbox slim, switched the original, locked/unmodified PCB and the drives worked fine, so the burnt laser theory is discarded. I guess we overdrilled maybe, I dunno.

I think I'll try the MT1339E & MX25L2005MC replacement technique with these PCBs. I'll let you know how it goes.

I've done the Kamikaze hack quite a few times now as well. I am getting the same symptoms on this drive of mine as well. Unlocked just fine in JF, modded it, locked it, outro'd it. Same as usual.

I can even use the QTip and alcohol method to unlock the drive, no issues.

Put it in the Slim and it sounds a bit strange then "Open Tray"

My guess is we went a little too far. I stopped as soon as JF played the unlock jingle.
