I recently modded a 1.6 crystal (xecuter 2.6, M8 BIOS, 120GB HDD). for nephew.
He was playing around tonight, this is what he says he did:

In AVALAUNCH, trying to save IP settings, but wouldn't save because it said EEPROM protected. He turned protection OFF in AVALAUNCH.
Then went back to change IP address and save. Then xbox locked-up.
Switched xbox off and back on. Booted up ok.
Went back to AVALAUNCH to re-enable EEPROM protection.
He might have selected "RESET BIOS/EEPROM..... (something like)".
Then lost Video/Audio....... so he switched off and on again.

NOW, fires up green light for a second, then stays on flashing red, can eject, no video/audio.

Any advice greatly appreciated :?:

He's hosed the EEPROM.

You're going to need a new one, however I'm not too sure how to reprogram the EEPROM on a 1.6 as ConfigMagic etc doesn't support it.

If you locked the Xbox prior to all this, then the chances are you've hosed that too - losing the HDD Key (which is in the EEPROM that's been erased) is pretty fatal.

It's an expensive lesson for said Nephew...

so I may need a new modchip/motherboard or both?
Chip's fine - that's some consolation!

By the time you've bought a new motherboard / HDD, you won't be far off a new Xbox.

Ben Q not entering in Vendors Mode

I tried to put my Ben Q in Vendors mode using the half tray method and Jungleflasher to update to IX 1.61.

Can't get into Vendors Mode. Can somebody help me??? Pleeeeeease. :(

Is there another method better or easier than Jungleflasher?

Let'say 360 Firmware Toolbox??

Thanks.

Re: Ben Q not entering in Vendors Mode

you dont need to use the half way method

if you using a ck3 power drive eject and close turn off load JF - get keys (if you dont have them)

load firmware etc - benq unlock tab if thats fails intro device you might need to intro it mid cycle if it doesn't go to correct flash property

try that and let us know how you get on

Re: Ben Q not entering in Vendors Mode

Not using ck3.
My drive is not stock, it has already the 1.5 version. Don't need keys.
The problem is that my PC recognize the drive, JF (in the Hitachi tab) sees all the drives including my Ben Q, but when I go to MTK flash tab, I can't see the drive there specifically.

Any idea why???

Believe or not, I flash this drive a million years ago and I can't remember how I put it in Vendors Mode.

Re: Ben Q not entering in Vendors Mode

use the intro button rather than benq unlock

might have to power on/off a few times

im a ck3 user makes life easier

Re: Ben Q not entering in Vendors Mode

What status are you receiving when you press Intro button and what version of JF are you using and is the computer a 64 bit machine. Onboard sata chipset or not ?

Re: Ben Q not entering in Vendors Mode

When hit Intro never receives answer, it keeps telling me to power off and power back 1 second after but no results.

Using JF 1.70 and SATA connection from my motherboard straight to XBOX DVD drive.

Yesterday I checked a small square that allows to see all devices including IDE and momentarily I saw the drive but my computeer went nuts and after shutting it down, the program corrupted my windows and lost the partition in my HDD. I wonder if Win 7 is susceptible to all this flashing stuff?? Things that makes me go, HMMMMM........

Anyhow, still having the same problem, can't see my BEN Q, to update the firmware. Is there another easier way than this??? By the way, don't have USB as a boot option in my BIOS therefore I can't go with iPrep.

IDEAS, IDEAS, i'm burned.

Re: Ben Q not entering in Vendors Mode

YOU can use ntfs for dos cd and boot from it and have a usb prep with iprep it will have a drive letter just go to that drive and use iprep as you normally would . you can find ntfsfordos in the download section here on 360 mods. it will only work though if you computer recognizes the sata drive when ntfsfordos boots. I still would like to know if you are using a 64 bit or 32 bit windows machine. if your sata is not a via chipset jf most likely will not work. I have had this same problem on a AMD motherboard I have and had to use another machine that was an intel motherboard witch had a via chipset.

It would be nice to know if you have the sata cable plugged into sata 0,1,2,.... etc as this will make a difference. make sure you follow the portio 32 or 64 directions that come with the new version of JF as the support for win7 has changed and they are using different drivers for it as well check the documentation that comes with the new JF..

Let us know how it is going. I know its frustrating but JF is the easiest and safest way to flash drives know. You can always chat with someone on the JF IRC channel as well there are very knowledgeable and courteous members there that are noob friendly.

Re: Ben Q not entering in Vendors Mode

i made a homemade ck kit that connects to the power supply in my computer you can search online and find out how to make it. the hard part is finding a 3.3v connection but it can be found on the power supply of you computer but you have to splice into it. a connectivity kit makes life alot eaiser. it is cheap to make you can buy everything you need at radio shack.

And you do need to have the tray half way open when you start JF as well because of firmgaurd on firmware above ix 1.4 thats why a connectivity kit works well instead of powering from xbox. as I said search for homemade connectivity kit and you can find shematics for it if you cant find after some time I might post links to it or make my own but you need to look for it first before i will just give away how to do it lol. a little work. lol

Re: Ben Q not entering in Vendors Mode

Machine is a 32 bit. Used all SATA ports and no joy.

I tried using the NTFS4DOS because it seemed the best choice since I do not have USB Boot option in the BIOS. The problem was that when I hit load firmware besides the BEN Q iX firmware, I look for Ben Q 1.61 and it did not load (error). I thought it was a bad download from the site and I went again to xbins downloaded again but same thing happened. I try just for fun to see if it do the same with other hacked firmwares but they loaded nicely. Apparently the 1.61 version in xbins is unreadable for this NTFS4DOS option.

I still need to check if I can get the 1.61 Ben Q version from another place.

Regarding the homemade ck, I would love for you to share the schematics. Don't you think I had suffered enough????

I'll appreciate if you can lend a hand here. Thxs.

Re: Ben Q not entering in Vendors Mode

I found a torrent with a patch for the BQ 1.61. The problem is that iprep 10.7 do not recognize the idef but now I got the corrected file. I'll google for the ck schematics and let you know.
