Hello again. I just did a install on a 1.6 with the lpc rebuild board. Heres whats happening. I turn on the box and it just boots right to the MS dash as if there is no mod chip in it. The External switch is not working. I checked the connection from the switch to the chip and it is tight. The HDD, LAN and DO point are all solid solder connections. Ive already resoldered the LPC and all the Pin headers twice now and I get the same result everytime. The xbox is acting like there is no mod in it at all. Am I missing something here? This is my first 1.6 mod job, Ive done a few 1.0 and 1.4 already and everytime I get the chip in and reboot I always come to the flash bios screen. But not with this one, it just boots right to the MS stuff? Please save me soemone!

Hi

You did not mention what executer chip your using x3 or x2?

if its an x2, have you checked the switch to make sure the chip is enabled? do you get any lights on the external bank switch?

lets us know..

did you pull out pin 6? all i can offer for help is to recheck the lpc rebuild board. my xbox did the same thing until i de-soldered and re-soldered everything.... then it worked fine.

did you solder D0 in the right spot? do you have the 2 led's on the chip lit up?

Try using the eject button to start it up. My friends and I ran into a similar problem with one particular unit that we modded. It turned out that it required a VERY fast press of the power button. So, we thought that it wasn't working when we used the power button because only the eject button was giving us the blue light. See if using the eject button or a VERY quick press of the power button loads the mod chip BIOS.

I had a similar problem when moding a 1.6 xbox recently. Open the Xbox and move the DVD-Rom out of the way(but keep it connected) so that you can get a clear view of the X3. Turn on the Xbox and verify that both the 3.3v and 5v BLUE LED's are lit on the X3. If they're not, then your modchip is not getting power. Verify your alt 5v connection and your lpc connections.

Also if you feel that your connections are solid, you may want to try adjusting the position of the X3 on the pinheader, in rare cases some X3's, like the one I most recently used, didn't like being pushed in all the way down onto the pin header. Once I adjusted it's position by raising it a little the X3 and external switch worked.

Ive resoldered the lpc 3 times now and I did pull the 6 pin out. The chip does come on blue, not sure but I do see the inner side of the chip blue led come on, should there be an led coming on on the left side of the chip also? I gave up on the lpc board and am now trying to do the lpc wire rebuild method. Seems that I wazs having alot of problems trying to get the lpc solder to stick to the board, so far so good I will post again to let you know how this went. I will say this, the next time I am going to use an LPC board im going to first tape up pinheader to stay in place, then fit the lpc board and just solder the non pinheader points first, might not even pre tin those spots as that made it a bit harder. Then once those are done I will solder the pinheaders. These seems to me a little bit easier. Any comments on this idea?> Eject button only made it boot to the MS dash and DVD tray open.

There are two BLUE LED's on the X3 as you can see in the picture below, both of them must be on in order for the chip to work correctly. Turn on your Xbox and verify that they come on. If for some reason one of them is not lit, report back here and let us know which one, so that we may further assist you.

ok the led by the wheel is on, the other no. I beleive the one that is on is the 5v? Would this all cause the external switch not too come on and the chip not to boot? Im really losing serious ground here. The lpc wire install seems to be pretty solid, I tugged on every wire and they didnt come off. You know come to think of it, I had a real hard time getting the Alt 5v solder point to solder together , but now its super solid.

you NEED both led's to come on or else the chip won't power up properly. you should focus on pins 9 and 15 of the pinheader. Try connecting the two with a wire or resolder them. Don't bother resoldering anything else untill you get pin 9 and 15 solderd good enough to make that 3.3v led to light up
Crap never noticed NEVER TUG ON A WIRE THATS SOLDERD TO THE M/B

The reason you dont pull on a wire soldered to the mainboard is because you could pull a tracer up. Just clarifying the above point.

ok here we go, all wired up, I have checked all points from top of MB to the bottom of the MB all all have good continuity. The DO point has good con. from the end of the plug that goes to the chip all the way to the DO point on top of the board so I know thats good. Pins 9 & 15 have good con. every which way I can test it. If this doesnt work Im really lost. Hopefully this little extra wire works.

SUCESSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh What A Feelin----Xbox!!!!!!!!!!! You guys own all! I want to thank everyone for thier help as I was completly lost. The pin header 15 looked solderd even under a Mag glass but behold it was looose!! So even with the PCB on every time Id push the chip on it would push the pin down , pull up chip pin pull up to normal state! After trashing 2 pcb's then doing the Wire method, ( WIRE 9 & 15 felow N00bz!!) it works beautiful!!! I can not thank everyone enough! Thanks again. If you are having these probs I can go thru in detail what I did with you, maybe it will help you too, just PM me!

I’m glad to hear that you solved it! This is the problem that I predict for many people when they jump right into any soldering job without proper preparation. Almost always caused by dirty contacts of the surfaces you intend to solder.

yet another one where the chip w3as working all along and the soldering was bad - thank you for admitting it and letting us know

most ppl wont post if they bitch for days and then find they f**ked up - i guess they feel their d**k is small if they posted such a thing
