1.6 X3 installation problem

Alright, here's what I've have and have done:

1) 1.6(a) 10-04-2004 produced XBox (Came packaged with the Top Spin/NCAA '05) with Samsung memory, Xcalibur chip.

2) Installation of PCB was easy, as was the 5v alternate.

3) Both 3.3v and 5v LEDs are illuminated

4) Channel bank is set to off off off off

5) Using original XBox hardware, if it matters.

I can boot into the ms_dash and it plays fine, but all I get when I boot the chip is a blank screen. My switch panel glows blue showing the chip is enabled but I get nothing. I've read one post where this was a problem with the 1.6b's with the Hynix memory and they needed a BIOs upgrade to 3.0.3(?) and 1959.bin. The only way I've seen it fixed on the boards is to install it in an older XBox and upload it, or load the BIOS FTP, but I don't have access to an XBox I can hack and FTP won't work if I can't load into the FlashBIOS. Is there anything I can do, or am I going to have to find an updated chip from a vendor?

can you boot to the backup flashbios?

Yeah, power+eject to the backup works, but it's the same backup, because I haven't installed anything. I can't get anywhere past the blank screen with the chip activated.

How can I flash the BIOs when I can't even get it to the boot screen for the Xecuter?

Make a boot disk with avalaunch or unleashex ( both have a file manager ) and put the flashbios 3.03, and x3_1959_plus16.bin on it. Edit the config file to set the ip, ftp user/pass and ftp the flashbios over to the xbox.

i'm having this same problem. where do u get the thinbgs needed to make the boot disk? and how were u able to boot into the ms_dash?

I was able to boot in exactly how you're supposed to be able to, by hold the power button instead of pressing it quickly and releasing.

The hardware part is easy, I'm just not very software inclined, which is why this is proving a bit difficult for myself. I read through the FAQ about flashing, but it seems to only apply when you're already in the Xecuter console. I'm gonna download those apps and try but I just don't see how it will network and load to the Xecuter memory when all I can boot is the ms_dash...

Also, wouldn't I need to get the 3.01 BIOs release? Because the 3.03 states it works all all systems except the 1.6, where as the 3.01 states it works on all but the 1.6b.

what happens when you press power+eject at the same time? and you do know that holding the power disables the chip right

He has a 1.6b by the sounds of it and therefore may find it more useful to check the 1.6b help forum which covers the flashbios problems in full.
