You can just use a disk to flash the x3 bios but later on you will need to setup your xbox to pc/laptop network to FTP files...I'm not really into networking so I'm not much of a help but you can just put-up a simple network without using your wireless router.

Just connect your xbox to your laptop using a crossover cable and use a static ip address...there's a bunch of tuts about this which I'm sure you've read already.

Does your wirless router have some 10/100 ports too..
If so connect your xbox to one of these ports...
Set you laptop to obtain address automatically then switch on xbox.

The router should give an ip address to the xbox..
select flash via network (in the flashbios screen).

then open ie on the laptop and type in http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where x is the ip address shown on screen in flashbios).

flashfxp will not work until you flash a bios to the x3.

You can use a regular CAT5e cable plugged into your router but just make sure the x3cl network settings on your x3ce chip is set to "DHCP". Then x3ce should automatically communicate with your PC through your router plugging in the appropriate information into FlashFxp's 'Quick Connect'.
No sweat.
