Whew! It has been a long couple days. This is the first 1.6v out of about 6 xboxs that I have soldered. So far all I can get is a frag with chip on or off. I originally did the pin header install with the rebuild kit and checked with multimeter and all seemed good. All connections solid but still got a frag. I then decided to pull the rebuild kit and rebuilt it using wires. Same thing. So I completely pulled all that and the pin header which is now in several pieces and not usable any longer. Then I tried the wire install as illustrated in the pic that floats around here. Same problem. I did find out this time though that it can boot up normally as long as the led and hard drive wires are not soldered? Are they neccessary? I am not sure why they cause that problem but I can't believe that could be the problem all this time.

Perhaps I am missing something because I have not walked away from this yet. Any ideas?

check your swtiches that the cable is fitted in properly at both ends
the red HDD and green LAN wires are optional, however the grey D0 wire will need to soldered

Big_Whoopin posted a thread that tells you how to check the switches with a multimeter. Give that a shot.

Thanks for your replies. I got this thing working last night at about 2 am. What I finally did was just keep the led and hd led wires off. That's it. For some reason it would work just fine with them disconnected, but when connected it wouldn't work at all (frag). No telling. So I guess for those that are pretty sure that their solder points are solid but still have no ideas why your box frags with or without the modchip enabled then try just removing the red and green wire meant for the leds. Good luck, and thanks again for the replies.
