1.6 xBox with X3CE Installed

This is my current situation. I installed via pin header on my 1.6 xBox with X3CE and I did the 1.6 rebuild and I soldered the D0 wire to the rebuild silver plate and I also did the alternate 5v solder.

So when I power up my xbox I have 2 blue lights for the 3.3v and 5v on the chip light up. Also a red light for unprotected.

When I do a quick press to enable the chip my xbox turns on then off then on then off then on again and FRAG's with a blank screen.

BUT when I do a long press my xbox turns on and goes to the regular MS Dashboard with no problems.

Yes, I checked my soldering a few times and their pretty solid, and I dont have any solder splash or borken traces unless I'm blind.

Could someone please explain why this is occuring? To me it seems the problem only happens when I try to enable the chip.

Check and see what your switch settings are, it sounds like it is trying to access a bank where there is no bios loaded.

I ordered my chip from System-Mods. Also I have the pro switch and what should my settings be? Right now for protect the light is on and its red. The other 4 buttons 1-4 are not lit up with any color.

Ok I did as you said, but the problems still remains when trying to enable the chip. The xbox turns on off, on off, then FRAG's when trying to enable the chip with no picture on screen.

Oh also when I try enabling the chip and it does the usual on off on off FRAG. The little X which is suppose to go blue to show its enabled never does, its always red. Another problem I noticed is that when I try to press both power and eject as the same time nothing happens.

Try booting to the secondary 1MB combo bank, and also try booting to the backup BIOS. You can also try booting to each of the 8 256k banks.

Boot without the switch plugged in, and examine the plug on the chip for any bent pins. If all that fails, then it’s a bad solder somewhere.

Ok I decided to screw the pin header method and have now removed the pin header and now installed via wire install. This is the picture I followed to install the wires:

After installing I turn on the xbox to test and see if the problem is still there and its still the same problem. I checked for bent pins, also all the lights on the chip light up. 2 blue and 1 red for unprotected. Also I still have the LPC rebuild installed since I used the wiring method in the picture. And I also installed the red wire to the alternate 5v wire and removed the single red wire that was previously there from the pin header install.

I used the default switch and did: on on off off off - for the banks, and still no success.

If I disable the chip my xbox still works though.

Any ideas on to what could be causing this problem?

Your first post said you had a 1.6 board..the wire install drawing is for 1.0-1.5??

For example this does not show pin Lframe and rst as wired (pins 3 & 5)...pin 12(gnd) or 15 3.3V
I don't know if they are used thru the 1.6 but using a header they are certainly connected to the x3
I can't find a wire install drawing quickly since they changed the forum around but will find and post here asap..

does anyone else know where x3 1.6 wire install drawings are.

you are right to leave LPC rebuild on though as LPC is not presented on the header

you are best sticking with pin header for 1.6 boards

sb122606: I owe you big time, thank you so much for that diagram thats EXACTLY what the problem was with the wire install. I can enable and disable the chip. I knew I had no problems with my soldering. I got it to work now and I thank you again man. Everything works now, all I have left to do is flash now.

Oh btw I left the 1.6 rebuild as it would be for a pin header install. Will this affect anything? Like enable the chip at random times, because I don't want to get banned from xbox live when I have it disabled and the chip turns on.

No ...if it works then leave it there...
if we still had probs then we could have took it out of the equation.

As far as enable /disable of switch this comes from D0 (grey wire)...
if point is bad then chip is permanently enabled.

Once xbox begins its boot from flash..be it from x3 or original m$ then D0 state does not matter..
Your chip cannot enable once M$ begins to boot...so no worries there.

ok move to flash probs forum if any difficulties ...

Glad we fixed ya...

worth reading up on the banning theories...the concensus seems to be a marriage theory of the HDD and M/board..although hiding /disabling x3 from M$ has got to be a good thing

Finally If banned then u can get a new serial for your eeprom and your up and running again.

I dont plan to change hard drives or any other part from the xbox. So, I should be ok if the marriage theory is true.

Yep i would say u will be rock solid...many XBL gamers are keeping their stock drive in..

The theory does go that if you have never connected to XBL and upgrade your drive then M$ see this as the virgin blueprint for your box when in XBL...ie if in the future u swap the HDD then along comes the ban.

i think a lot of people are pissing into the wind on banning theories.

safest bet is no mods ...therefore powering with red x and stock HDD and DVD drive will work for a lifetime
