1.6b UPDATE (possibly)

Mate and i have been struggling to chip xboxs. 2 crystals, both brand new. both with X3 with flash bios 3.03 (purchased from baldbouncer)
His chipped fine, mine didnt. Despite numerous resoldering and checking nothing would make mine work. Anyhow, due to an accident he blew his up and damaged the LPC port so off he went to change it (we have sussed the security stickers btw, can remove em easily). His "new" xbox, is also a crystal and guess what, wont chip, with either of the working chips.
After some scrutiny we discovevered that his OLD crystal (hynix exaclibur) had 7ns ram. New one (mine included) have 5ns ram.
Look at the hynix chips, long number in middle ends with a -x the "x" is either 5 or 7. I might be wrong but i think 7ns is fine, the 5 wont work at all.
Might be a red herring but seems a bit odd to me.
Anybody else care to check our theory??

Bit more info.
Both these unchippable boxes are dated October, mine the 9th and my mates the 17th. His previous and chipped xbox was dated September.
Check your dates folks!!! Lets see if there is a pattern.
both chips were also flashed with X3_1959_v16plus.bin file.

It means what it says. He damaged his LPC port, took the xbox back to the shop and got it replaced, his new xbox with the 5ns ram wont chip.
Sorry, whats so difficult to understand?

*UPDATE*

After flashing the x3 with cromwell3.0.3 in a 1.0 box it will now start perfectly to the flash screen when put back onto the 1.6b, but when flashed with x3 bios just starts up to the default ms dash.

Do we need an updated bios for these new boards?

It means that they have managed to remove the two screws under the stickers without damaging the sticker, thus allowing them to return the box to the store when they screw up modding it.

Dishonest and probably illegal, but it's a very useful tactic :twisted:

I have the 1.6B 5ns model as well. I'm holding back on installing my Xecuter 3 chip until I find more information.

No, then disregard the following bit regarding backups and forgive my presumption.

Can i assume then you have "backups" of your games? Or do you use your xbox purely to run Linux on?

And talking of presumtion, why do you seem to assume we will screw them up, for your information, both the installs went perfectley well, it was due to the X3 bios. Not our installs. Our xboxs are now chipped, working, blue modded and all the security stickers are perfect. If youre going to do something, do it properly.
Anyway, just putting the record straight and yes, its a very useful tactic indeed.

Cheezies, what bellman wrote is correct, you must install the X3 in another lower revision xbox, then flash the new bios. Then it will work in your 1.6b xbox.

First ,I want to thank for everyone's help on flashing my unit.
Second, this is the best site out there for info.

Quick Question . Once I'm flashed,CoD mw2 in drive. Do I just go ahead and sign up and create an account in Xbox live?

Is there anything I need to know before I do that?
Disk is protected BTW.

Do I still need to pay for an account to play online?
Does LT just allow you to play burnt games online? or can you play burnt games for free online.

yes u need microsoft points to keep your online gamertag usable also yes u can play back up games ...originals if your 360 is not flashed copys if your 360 is flashed

I don't understand, you don't need Microsoft point to keep your online gamertag usable. Your gamertag is good for the time period you paid for. Microsoft points are just used for downloading certain things on XBL (you can't buy XBL with Microsoft points). Also, when my first console was banned, I still used and had Microsoft points on my account.
