I've looked at a lot of posts and found some close, I just need to establish where my problem is.
Background:
Just bought a new Xbox from EB and purchased an Xapt3r 1.6 with the 5 wires hanging off of it. Also the X3CE... was hoping to do a solderless install.
First: got the Xapt3r installed. My wires don't go through the holes completely, but the 4 leds light up( my manual from mod-chips.com says all the lights should be green except for the one that should be blue, indicating a good D0 connection. Can I assume since all 4 led's are lit(red, orange, yellow, green) and the blue led is lit, that I have a good xapt3r install?
If not I'm stopping right here, because this must be where my problem is.
I plug in the power-5v and then the chip.
I have the two blue leds lit on the chip and the memory protect lite is red( I can switch it to get it to change to green.
( I plugged everything else in/finished the job)
Hit the power button quick and I would get the flashbios screen( 3.01)- Is this right?( should it be 3.03 with this version of Xbox?)
I had trouble making a selection till I used the DVD remote.
Left the memory in it's default state( all switches off)
Found if I powered off after being at the flash bios screen and powering back on right a way, I would frag.
I would let it sit a few minutes and then try it again, and it worked(got to flash screen) Also sometimes my flashbios screen had artifacts.... this can't be good...
Tried flashing the bios via http, got the erasing screen( yellow status bar) on my tv and then the green programming status bar, and then at the end , it says programming failed.....( eject button flashing orange and green) and never shuts down the box( unless I'm supposed to wait 20 minutes for it to finish)
Now I have no bios on whatever bank it was trying to flash( powering on now gives me a green light on my eject button, but nothing on the screen)
I power on with both buttons to get backup flash and try again, fails....
also tried flashing from a cdrw and I get the same failure.
I can't seem to flash this damn thing, it keeps failing at the end and I don't know whether my hardware install is good....
leds indicate it's good, but my results tell me it isn't.....
I don't have another Xbox to test this and I don't want to have to buy another chip unless I have to...
Should I focus on making sure my xapt3r wires are ging completely thru the holes, even though the leds being lit indicate a good connection?
Please advise....
Thanks
Tony
