I've looked at a lot of posts and found some close, I just need to establish where my problem is.

Background:

Just bought a new Xbox from EB and purchased an Xapt3r 1.6 with the 5 wires hanging off of it. Also the X3CE... was hoping to do a solderless install.

First: got the Xapt3r installed. My wires don't go through the holes completely, but the 4 leds light up( my manual from mod-chips.com says all the lights should be green except for the one that should be blue, indicating a good D0 connection. Can I assume since all 4 led's are lit(red, orange, yellow, green) and the blue led is lit, that I have a good xapt3r install?

If not I'm stopping right here, because this must be where my problem is.

I plug in the power-5v and then the chip.

I have the two blue leds lit on the chip and the memory protect lite is red( I can switch it to get it to change to green.

( I plugged everything else in/finished the job)

Hit the power button quick and I would get the flashbios screen( 3.01)- Is this right?( should it be 3.03 with this version of Xbox?)

I had trouble making a selection till I used the DVD remote.

Left the memory in it's default state( all switches off)

Found if I powered off after being at the flash bios screen and powering back on right a way, I would frag.

I would let it sit a few minutes and then try it again, and it worked(got to flash screen) Also sometimes my flashbios screen had artifacts.... this can't be good...

Tried flashing the bios via http, got the erasing screen( yellow status bar) on my tv and then the green programming status bar, and then at the end , it says programming failed.....( eject button flashing orange and green) and never shuts down the box( unless I'm supposed to wait 20 minutes for it to finish)

Now I have no bios on whatever bank it was trying to flash( powering on now gives me a green light on my eject button, but nothing on the screen)

I power on with both buttons to get backup flash and try again, fails....

also tried flashing from a cdrw and I get the same failure.

I can't seem to flash this damn thing, it keeps failing at the end and I don't know whether my hardware install is good....

leds indicate it's good, but my results tell me it isn't.....

I don't have another Xbox to test this and I don't want to have to buy another chip unless I have to...

Should I focus on making sure my xapt3r wires are ging completely thru the holes, even though the leds being lit indicate a good connection?

Please advise....

Thanks

Tony

based on the previous post everything should be OK- now what?

Looks like I have everything right because I have the lites lit and when I plug in the chip, I get the blue LEDs lit.

I must have hosed the one bank where the original flash 3.01 bios was since all I get is a blank screen and a green let on the eject button when I boot to the flashed failed memory area.

I can boot to the MS area no problem.

If we agree that my solderless install is good( can someone confirm?)

then how do I flash with the results I've been getting?

In the mean time, I'm getting a fiberglass pencil....

Install looks fine if the Lights are all lit, you only had one useable bank on the chip which leaves you in somewhat of a dilemma, from here you have 3 options.

EDIT.....

Have you tried booting to the back up bios, hold Power On and Eject?

What version box is it, 1.6 or 1.6B

If its a 1.6 then you can boot to the back up bios, set the switches on the front to Bank 1234: on on off off off(Set to this when flashing first time with FlashBIOS)
Flash the bios, then boot again to the back up and either put another 1meg bios on bank 5678 using the same method, boot to back up set bank switches to:

Bank 5678: off on off off off

1. Get some one to flash it for you using an earlier xbox version
2. Hotswap it with a box that already works (chipped) and use an application called X3Flash
3. Contact your seller and ask if they can reflash it with v3.03 on banks 1-4 and Banks 5-8 along with the back up bios.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!- no soldering!

I tried flashing it with the 3294 X3 BIOS and that continuously failed with a "programming failed" message....

Just for the jhell of it, I flashed with the 3029 build (with the plus for my version)

and it worked fine, shut down my Xbox just like it should and when I powered it back up.... "ROX MY BOX"!!

what a pain!, but I got it to flash....
Looks like flash bios 3.01 is not able to flash my xbox with the newest X3 bios.

Maybe you had a corrupt 3294 bios or you might of not been using the Plus version.

Glad you are sorted.

Now all you need to do is FTP into X3CL and flash the latest correct bios to the other bank.

This thread is reeeeeaaaaalllly old, but I am having the same problem as this person, literally right down to the minor details, except mine isn't RoX'n My Box after trying 3029.

Does anyone know what to do, other than those 3 options that were given? Because I Dont know anyone with a modded XBox and the dealer I got it from is pretty far away.

If not, just say no, so then I can contact them and ask them to flash it to 3.03

Bummer man! Wish I something to add...thought I did and realized I was wrong. I just trashed my only usable mem slot trying to install a bios on my only FlashBIOS v3.01...can't use anything newer.

The backup ROM is FlashBIOS 3.0.1 by default so unless you've gone into ConfigLive and flashed over the backup ROM, you should be able to get into FlashBIOS by pressing the power and eject buttons at the same time.

Pretty frustrating. I have the xbox v1.6, installed the solderless adapter and the Xecuter X3 chip. Everything worked well, set the banks to ON ON OFF OFF OFF, and uploaded the 3294v16plus.bin through the web browser. The bios seemed to flash without a problem, and then the xbox shut down.

I booted it back up, and it shuts off immediately. If I change the banks to 5678, it boots up and shuts down twice automatically, and the third time it boots to a blank blue screen.

I've tried all the channel combinations, holding down the white button, holding power and eject together, but I am getting nowhere.

Is the chip hosed or is there another way to get this up and running?
