i have just started a project which is going to be a massive overkill - rehousing a new xbox 360 slim into a mini pc case which will power cpu watercooled and 3 12v fans and handfull of led strips.

i am going to power all of this using the 12v/5v (for the led's) source and ground points on the underside of the power plug on the mobo.

My question is, how much strain can I put on this power source, I know it is supposedly quite stable. I know there are four 12v sources around there, should I use a source per fan/cpu LC?

some pics to come when i get further into the project

thanks

I dont have a power supply in front of me to check, but doesnt the supply list the maximum output from each DC source? You can use any 360 power supply rated for more output than your console (i.e. a silver tip supply) which would result in spare capacity. Since you are using a slim, which draws considerably less than a phat, I would use an old phat supply and you can rely on the difference of 12/5 volt consumed to power your extras. You can use one of the phat to slim plug converters for your slim plug in.
