16D2S wont read discs

I've flashed hundreds of drives never once had to disconnect the laser it's a myth

sorry to jump an old thread but i just flashed my first drive (16D2S) also, didnt dissconnect the laser and am having the same exact problem, would people agree that i need to purchase a new laser then? the drive makes one sound when switched on but then nothing, doesnt even sound like its trying to read the disc.

You should start you own thread for support but does sound like a dead laser.

Just to confirm new laser also fitted and everything is working now.
