hello,
im on my 3rd xbox now and hopefully, im on the right track. got everything to work ok, got the flashbios 3.03 screen to come up. plugged in the crossover network cable, followed the instructions. when i select 'enable network flashing', the screen shows exactly what im supposed to see;

DHCP FAILED - Falling back to 192.168.0.99

however, when i go to internet explorer and tried to go to http://192.168.0.99/ it says cannot find server?

i made sure that the local area network is connected and that the fire wall is OFF.

any ideas?

thanks

If you are just making a connection between your PC and Xbox, you need to change your network settings on the PC to static. Choose an IP address like 192.168.0.77
Remember to change the settings back when your done, or else you won't be able to connect to the internet.

Control panel---Network and internet connections--Network connections.
Right click on "Local Internet Connection"(or whatever you've named it), then Properties.
Double click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" then select "Use the following IP Address"
My setup looks like the following...
192.168.1.***
255.255.225.0
192.168.1.1
24.116.0.159
24.116.0.202
Most of this information can be found by clicking Start--Run--cmd--"ipconfig /all" minus the quotes

jasn,
thanks for the help. however, i did exactly what you told me but no dice. the only difference is that i put in 192.168.1.77 in the first line. went in internet explorer again, typed in;

http://192.168.0.99 still cannot find server.

so frustrating!

Just tested on my setup. You must change yours to 192.168.0.***. If you don't use the zero, you're not in the same subnet, and they can't see each other. I reset mine to 192.168.0.77 and it worked right away.

Do you need help changing the Ip address of the xbox or the pc?
If you are looking to change the Ip address of the pc, then follow the step outlined in the above post #4. These are for Windows XP, but Windows 98 or ME are relatively the same.
If you are looking to change the Ip address of the xbox follow these steps. (I'm assuming you are booting to X3 Config Live?)
Power on the Xbox. While booting, hold the WHITE button on the controller. (This will load Config Live.)
From the first screen, select-- "Settings" then "Network Setup". If you are using a crossover cable (pc to xbox) leave DHCP disabled and "Set Static IP" to something like 192.168.0.99. You can leave the other settings for now.
If you are using a router, then you will want to set DHCP to Enabled. Be sure to note the FTP information (ie..the login and password)
I hope this helps.
