I run a 2 tb on mine. I also formated on my xbox for the 16 GB of xbox space. The rest of the space is left in Fat32. Anything you put on it while on the regular dashboard will be placed on the xbox formated 16GB. Anything you put on it while on Freestyle or XeX will be placed on the rest of the space.

That's the end result I'm hoping for. I purchased the XECUTER X360USB PRO, XECUTER CK3i, and XECUTER PROBE V3 bundle from ModChipCentral. Should be here tomorrow. My ultimate goal is to be able to run emulators (mostly 8 bit NES) and copy my retail purchased game DVD's to the hard drive so I don't have to keep using the media. Faster loading from hard drive and no chance of media becoming damaged or lost.

One thing I've observed (after reading these forums for months), is that FAT32 is what everyone is using (I assume by necessity), but when I make an ISO of my game discs (GTA V for example) it results in an 8GB file. I may be an XBOX 360 newb, but I've been a computer user for 30+ years (all the way back to the C64) and I know that FAT32 will only store up to 4GB files. How am I going to store my GTA V discs on my hard drive and have them load from whatever custom desktop I choose?

I hope I chose the correct tools to allow me to do what I desire. Even after reading the forums for months, there doesn't seem to be a very clear answer as to what pieces are needed to achieve what goal.

With an rgh/jtag console when you install a game you just stick in you media disk and use freestyles copy DVD feature. You dont actually copy the ISO In one but rather it breaks it down into its files and folders and copies those.

You really didn't need the tools that you ordered to do this. If you plan on ripping back up copies of your games then you will need them but not to install them to you rgh.

You can extract your game to HDD using FSD. It has this ability built in.

Okay, so FSD is Freestyle. I did a forum search for "fsd" and got no hits. Apparently the database has no index entries for "fsd" even though it is clearly in the post above. Most forum search engines don't work worth a damn, which is why I use Google with the "site:xxxxx.com" parameter.

Anyway, I would love to have XBMC on my 360 (as I do on my classic XBOX), but I don't seem to see that the project went that direction. Friend of mine uses Freestyle, which I didn't care for.

I wanted a truly trouble free hack that enables me to do or change whatever I wanted. I really wanted to take my 320GB 360 drive off the side and replace it with a 1TB drive in the OEM case and copy my games to that, but that doesn't seem to be an option for some reason. External USB isn't nearly as sexy. In the end, I'll probably end up hacking the internals to mount a drive internally and figuring out how to move/resolder a USB port to plug it in.

It most certainly is!

Once you have a JTAG/RGH, you can put ANY 2.5" SATA into a caddy and use that to its fullest potential. I have a 1TB internal HDD on mine.

Well that's good to hear from someone who is actually doing it. I'm going by a guys place tonight to buy up a box of various 360 pieces including a spare DVD drive and a 320GB official MS hard drive in caddy. I'll crack the caddy open and replace it with a 500GB.

I'll read up on how to save what's necessary off my old caddy drive before swapping. Since I just got this 360, I really don't want anything on the old drive anyway, but there might be some 360 system files on it. Game saves, settings, and so forth, I really don't care about. Plus, I don't use or care about Live either. Banning is nothing I'm concerned about.

Well, the guy didn't know what he had. Turned out to be a 20GB, not a 320GB. Not a big deal as I just needed the caddy. I paid accordingly. I ordered a WD 1TB from NewEgg yesterday, should be here today. The DVD drive he had ended up being an older chrome faced TS-H943 ms28 (August 2006). I posed a question in another forum here whether or not to mod the Samsung instead of the LiteOn.

What method did you use to prepare your drive for internal use? I had intended to use XECUTER X360USB PRO HDD HACKER TOOL v0.21 with a 250GB HDSS file to build the system/save partitions and the leftover ~750GB would be where I'd put my game images/emulators/etc. I ordered a WD Blue, 1TB , 2.5", 9.5mm (WD10JPVXFR), but I can't find an HCL (hardware compatibility list) for the Hacker Tool. I could have swore I saw a list of supported drives at one time, but I searched all over with no luck. I would have expected it to be in this thread or this thread.

UPDATE: The list of supported drives is on the forum download page for the Hacker Tool! I knew I saw it somewhere. Unfortunately the drive I ordered is not listed. I'll try it and report back.

You don't use HDD Hacker tool AT ALL.Put the drive in the console.Go to System/Storage and format it.Done.
Well that's too easy. I'll report back before considering the Hacker Tool.

The original XBOX wasn't that easy. That was the last console I modded. Although it does everything I want, and I currently still use it, it is getting on in years and hardware failures are certainly more eminent and with hardware and support getting harder to come by. Besides, I like the additional Media Center functions of the 360, so it's natural for me to move that direction. Now if I could only get XBMC on the 360 I could mimic my original XBOX look and feel and keep the wife happy. She claims every time she gets used to something, I go and change it. She hated the move from XP to Windows 7.

It absolutely was. Boot from Slayers/AID.
Heh, heh... I guess I didn't have the right tools for the job then. It's been years, but I remember it being much more difficult. The best part was the Xecuter 3/X3 BIOS. Worked (and still is working) like a champ.
