2.6 CE and 1.4 or 1.5 mobo, no power to mod chip

[font=verdana, arial, helvetica]Hey guys- this seems like a simple ass problem, but its got me stumped.

I did the install with the pin header, got my D0, LAN, and HDD wires soldered and plugged into the chip. My solder joints are looking damn good (which they usually don't), yet i don't have any power to the chip. Meaning that the blue light isn't coming on.

I read that the 1.5 has a power lead disconnected on the LPC port, which is why i think it might be the problem. I haven't remembered to bring my multimeter home to see which mobo it actually is.

Any clues would be greatly appriciated.

The D0 point got nothing to do with supplying power to the chip. All it does is to tell the box whether to boot from the on-board chip or from the LCP port (which is the port that you've just put the pin header into). Since you don't have the blue LED on the chip, sounds like you've missed out the Alt5V point. I've just checked my 2.6ce parts and can verify that the red Alt5V is a single red wire with a single connector. You'll have to solder this single red wire as shown in the diagram http://www.teamxecuter.com/x3/tutorials/16/x3_alt5v.jpg and connect it to the chip. good luck.

Don't solder the alternate 5v on a 1.5 board. Do you get any lights on the switches?

Fantmx is definitely right here. Sorry for confusing your 1.5 with the 1.6 xbox version. Late night reading I guess :).

I knew not to solder the 5v wire- since its not 1.6.

I have the board taken apart right now, but as far as i remember, there were no lights on the switches. that's 90% sureness.

i finally brought my multimeter home from work, so i can verify whether the board is 1.4 or 1.5 when i wake up in the morning. anything i should pour over while i'm working with this board tomorrow?

one last thing- when i have the switches set to chip-enable, the board boots three times, and then stays on flashing an LED error code. when i have the chip disabled, it boots to the xbox dashboard (haven't replaced the hard drive yet)

the chip is programmed with flashbios_v303.bin and x2_5035_vOld_512.bin via my USB programmer, so the rebooting shouldn't be an incorrect bios problem, like i had last time (when i had to buy the programmer to fix my bad flash). neither bios banks do anything differently while the chip is enabled.
thanks again,

The D0 is working fine if you get a FRAG with the chip enabled. There is a problem with your install. I'm curious about you not having any lights though.

Any thoughts on the LPC port power being disconnected? I don't see any tutorials or anything saying that the 1.5 needs to be done differently from 1.0-4. I still haven't verified that its a 1.5 though- I have somehow misplaced my multimeter. I'll see if i can't bum one tomorrow.

Off to pour over the board some more...

Thank you! I have the same problem and everyone's blundering confusion about what's going on made me think I was alone. If it helps you, and if anyone has a solution, please see one of these forum threads where I've sought fruitlessly for answers.

Also, with the problem of just not getting power to the chip, the above advice is correct. You're only supposed to remove the 3rd pin for a 1.6 mobo. The two that should be missing are the 1st from the left and the 2nd from the right.
