I have a v1.0 XBOX according to the faq I read. (Conexant vid chip + fan on GPU).

Looking at the 2.6CE (solderless) install steps here:

http://www.teamxecuter.com/xapter/

In the first picture, you can see the set of holes on the MB where the adapter goes. On my XBOX's MB, those holes are filled with solder.

Am I going to have to open up those holes? Or is this not a problem?

This won't be a problem. Just take a stiff eraser or a Q-tip with some nail polish remover and clean the area up to help make good contact.

From what I've read (never tried one of these myself) you don't need to remove the solder. This is what fantmx is getting at. Using a cotton swab with the nail polish remover or an eraser will help to clean the surface of the solder filled holes (removes resin residue, oxidization, etc.) so that you get good contact. From pictures I've seen of the solderless adapter it appears to me that the underside points are spring loaded and should give enough that the adapter still goes flush to the motherboard.

It's safer for your motherboard if you don't try to remove the solder. On my 1.0 I did to install the pinheader, but I also have a variety of soldering tools that enabled me to cleanly remove the solder without damaging anything. Others have not been so lucky when trying to clean out the holes.

No, it will clean the solder so the pins of the adaptor can make better contact. You don't have to remove the solder. I must type really slow or something...
