2.6 in a v1.6a mobo hard drive error

this is the deal:

i had a v1.0 box with a 2.6 n f***ed up the mod so i got a new 1.6 board and psu from ebay with the LPC already rebuilt and d0 point pre-soldered.

i read that it doesnt matter about the LAN and HD wires when soldering so installed the chip without.

Now as soon as i plugged the box in it turned itself on and came up with the flashBIOS screen. (i am using my hi-fi power cable as i lost my old cable...i dont know if this affexts the box?!?!)

everything is plugged in as it should be and the flash protect is off. but it says it cannont detect my hdd (its a western digital stock hdd that came with the box). iv checked everything many times and im still getting this error.

i have an excelstor 80gb to go in but i want to just check everything is working first before i put that hdd in.

can anyone help me with this problem as the tutorial didnt say how to fix the problem.

p.s. i read thru countless posts but the titles of most are a bit vague so i mite have missed an answer to this problem. i am sorry if i have. many thanks!

ok if your getting the flash bios screen your install is fine ..... if i were you i would get hold of a copy of slayers auto install and with your new hard drive installed in the xbox boot up your xbox with the slayers disc already in the dvd drive ..... then select install upgraded hard drive from the options and slayers will format and install eveything you need to your new drive ..... good luck

do u know y its turning on by itself tho?? n i cant turn it off unless i take the power cable out. i'll try the slayer idea aswell ill let u kno how it goes!!

you wont be able to use that hard drive if you didnt unlock it before or if you didn;t back up your eeprom

write it off and upgrade to an 80gb drive or so, they're cheap.

wat steps wud i need to go thru to put the 80bg hdd in, i have one. it is lockable cos i checked already. i have no other bios on the chip apart from flash bios which is pre-installed anyway. where do i go now.....please help!!!

rite i cant seem to turn on the xbox using the button. i have to take the power cable out n then put it back in. so not much i can do there really! n wen i turn it on with the chip disabled i get a number 6 error message....does anyone know wat this means??????

Look for solder bridges on the board. Also make sure the LPC and D0 joints are taped up on the bottom of the board to prevent a short.

its all taped up and there is no problem with the soldering from what i can see. is there anything else wrong?! i have just found out that i need to change the hdd as its a new mobo. could this be the problem?

Check the p/e board... that hooks up to your power and eject switches...


Try disconnection it and going straight into the motherboard and see if the problem is still there...

Then check that for any solder splashes or problems.

where is the p/e board?? if u mean the switch that comes with an X3 then i dont have as i have a 2.6. i havent done anything with the power/eject wire either??! any help??
