Anyone have any ideas.. i've read every thread i can find and at this point I can only guess it is a bad chip...

2 reboots then flashing
xbox v1.0
was working great with 2.3 lite till i broke off the switch connector.
replaced with 2.6 and its been wrecked since.

did a pin header and then wire install, same thing.. was originally a wire install.

resoldered so many times i've got lead poisoning

every wire (using wire install presently) has continutity to the board and out all the traces. Tested both sides of mobo.

Checked, rechecked, and checked again D0 from both sides of mobo

checked voltages on LPC when powered on, every one reads what they should except 1 which is a tad hot at 1.5v (why do people show .5? did MS change the voltage?)

Cannot find any cut traces nor solder blobs which might be joining traces.

Sorry I can't boot into MS dashboard since I dont have the original HD but at least it gives me the normal "call customer service" errors so it seems to work.

Anyone have any other ideas besides try another chip or ship this one back?

have you checked your ide cable? and drive power hookups?
yeah i've tried it with drives in place.. same symptoms... if I disable the mod via the switch (or remove it) and hook up the drives I get the xbox error code saying unlocked drive.

presently i've got all that ripped out, strictly trying to get the box to just get to the flashbios.

from all the threads it seems i'm not getting to the point of booting the chip which leads me to believe its a bum chip or something I just cannot detect.

there are 2 problems you might be having when youre all set up to boot to play you need all the dips off including the protect switch (i always frag if one gets bumped).

next, press both buttons on the box to boot to the flash bios and at the bottom there is an option to lock the drive (wont boot unlocked)

try those out

check that the swtich wires are properly connected at both ends from chip to swtich, and that those wires and not getting pinched anywhere

switch

yeah i triple checked the wires and they look good. I get all the pretty led's on the switch side of things, and a blue led on the mod board.

If i connect D0 to a ground point instead of connecting it to the 3 pin header on the mod it should boot to the mod chip correct? I wonder if D0 isnt getting grounded.

Yes, by grounding the D0 you will force it to boot from the chip. It may be the switches themselves. Take the tape off of the switchboard, and look for broken solder points. Try flipping the switches a few times too.

problem solved...

running out of ideas I ordered a new 2.6 chip and it worked flawlessly. Guess I got a bad chip from the get-go.

So whats the moral of the story? Check your wiring but dont think the chips are perfect. I wasted a ton of time chasing down dead ends.
