hi all,

i've got a 1.6b xbox and 2.6ce chip, all was working fine until today, i booted up my xbox and i only got the option to run a game from dvd drive or from hard drive. no other options like settings or emulators e.t.c

strange i thought. . so i had a game of pro evo, rebooted the xbox to check if i still had only the two options but this time it booted to the ms dash.

now it will only boot to the ms dash regardless of whether the chip is on or off, with the chip on i do get the pink evox sign in the top left corner but it will not boot to evolution dash.

i ran the slayers auto install disk and re-installed using the correct option (large disk, f:) and all seemed to go ok, however on reboot it just goes to msdash again. :(

so my question is what to do, do you think i need to re-flash my bios ?

any help appreciated. .

thanks.

I would suggest reflashing on the simple premise of replacing the EvoX BIOS with X2CL 5035, as I feel it is the superior BIOS. I suspect though that this is *not* the answer to your problem, I'm just the first of many around here that would recommend you make this change.

I'm wondering how the EvoX dashboard reacts when the evoxdash.ini (I think? it's been a while) config file gets removed. If it has default options that would still show up (game from DVD or HDD) this could be what initially happened. Do you have any knowledge if this file was altered/removed?

Do you know where your EvoX dashboard was located? Had it replaced the MS dash as xboxdash.xbe on the C drive, and possibly been overwritten by an MS dashboard update?

It looks like your solution will be to create a boot disc so that you can reinstall a mod dashboard. You can find tutorials on Xbox-Scene and create something custom or you can use a ready-made boot ISO like Slayers or AID.

I was thinking that Slayers wasn't putting dashboards where the current BIOS would look for them... and it was then falling back to MS. Or, if EvoX had replaced xboxdash.xbe and whatever the restore C drive option is in Slayers is just putting back stock MS files, and then only giving the MS dash. Never used Slayers so I am taking some guesses here.

The chip is enabled since Slayers can be booted, but without a disc it just loads the MS dash. So there is no mod dash found in the locations set in the EvoX BIOS. X2CL 5035, while a better BIOS, won't solve the problem unless either the dashboards happen to exist in one of the default locations (which I would think would work for the EvoX BIOS) or it can be identified where the mod dashboard does exist so it can be set in the x2config.ini file that would need to be FTP'd over.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. . I don't know if the evoxdash.ini has been changed (well not by anything I’ve done anyway).

I installed via Slayers using the "stealth" install which I believe installs the new dash to F: and leaves C: as standard ms config (so you can still go on live)

I was wondering if the bios was just looking in C: and so just finding the msdash (correct me if this is incorrect) and if this is the case would installing using Slayers but using the option to install to C: fix this, as I’m not bothered about being able to go onto xbox live so I don't mind loosing this option..

This would be easier than flashing my bios.

Thanks again
