Hi guys,

I've installed an xecter 2.6ce and went to update chip with 1mb .x3.3294. All I get now is red/green flash 3 times, no audio video. I am assuming I have used the wrong file.

My question is, what file should I be using and can I fix this. If it can be fixed, what will I need/ I updated the bios by cd.

Please help, I've done alot of reading and getting nowhere fast.

Thanks in advance folks.

You cannot use an X3 bios on an X2 chip. It even says this in the readme file. You should get X2 5035 bios. There are two options to fix your chip. One would be to order a programmer, the other is to hot swap with another working, modded Xbox. A programmer is your best bet.

If you don't have access to another modded box then get yourself a programmer. They are cheap and really good to have as backup if you screw up like you just did...

All I can say: been there done that

Thanks for the replies and I did think as much and ordered a programmer. I mod ps2's and have done over 100 units and they say xbox is easier than ps2 to mod, I would disagree as the firmware for ps2 chips is much easier to update and the software needed is much easier to obtain with less conflicting views.

Wouldn't it be easier if the team did the same as the Matrix Team and put the relevant details of which chip need what and make it available for download from the site.

What I mean is, if I fit Matrix Infinity to ps2's, all I then have to do is got to the chip manufacturers site, download the software, update chip with cd, job done without having to scour the net to find software etc and wonder which one is the correct one.

Well hopefully I'll get my programmer ( and another 2.6ce) today and have it running in no time.

Thanks Again

i don't know how Ps2 bios and firmware works but the xbox bios's that go onto our mod chips are hacked versions of microsofts code. This basically means they are copyright code and there technichally illegal to distribute. This is why the chips are not sold with the hacked bios loaded on them or the bios's are not availible for direct download from the chip manufacturers website. If the chips came preflashed or the bios's were freely availible through normal channels it would open up a right can of worms.

Well I thought as much but the Matrix code does the same thing as the hacked code on the ps2 chips. Although the Matrix chips arer bought with only homebrew ability, the chip makers have the software to code the chips to play copies on their site, I assumed if one can do it, then others could do the same. Infact most other ps2 chips come pre written, you only have to install ( which is more difficult than xbox), and they work right out of the box so to speak, more of an install and go. Its a pitty the same could not be done with xbox chips.

Oh well we learn something new every day, the 2.6 is a great chip anyway.:)

I agree it would be nice to plug and go.

But if XBOX chips shipped with a hacked bios then I very much doubt they would still be on sale. Microsoft would have the chip manufacturers and resellers closed down quicker than you can blink an eye.

The PS2 chips must be using legal code otherwise they would have been closed down too. And the code distributed on the websites must also be legal.
