2 Dead Coolrunners

Martin it was not the chip getting hot it was IC2 on the coolrunner board that was getting hot . foundmy is legit and these board are not Chinese fakes believe me i have checked that

There's only one chip on the board and that's the one you replaced because the programmer was connected back to front - twice.

i have programmed many chips so thats not the issue
