Get an X360USB Pro and use USB.

You will still need something to power drives - a CK3 is perfect (you can use a MOLEX > USB power adapter to power the CK3).

This will power most drives (Hitachi V79 requires 12V because you need to use the unlock CD).

That will also work.

I know a couple of people who use RROD Xenon consoles to power drives.

Just remember to insert the DVD-ROM power cable the correct way when you need to power cycle.
hehe i know ;) hmm could you help me out with the SATA Serial PCMCIA?

You are wasting your time with a pcmcia card
1. you will need a via 6421 based pcmcia card with uniata drivers faked as via, as you cannot run driverless like pci.
2. It will only work with mtk based phat drives, will be useless for phat hitachi or slim liteon drives.
3. you will need a express54 to pcmcia adaptor, obviously the correct way around .
The cost outlay of the rare adaptor and the pcmcia card and its limitations of use, make the x360usbpro
the far superior option.
