If XBL detects a mod BIOS it will ban your box. To avoid this run a BIOS such as the X2CL series that blocks access to XBL. That way you don't accidentally connect if the game tries to grab new content or something.

I'm sure you can read up on softmodding at Xbox-Scene, I've got a link in my sig to their tutorials page. I don't know if xbins would have the softmod files but it would be the first place I would look. But you're in the Xecuter2 2.6 chip forum... why would you want to softmod? Get an X2, (or even X3) one of the best chips available to put in there! :D

having a chip in your xbox does not automatically get you banned. To avoid getting banned just turn the chip off before playing on Live. You are safe that way. Also new modded bios's have live blocking so if you are playing with your chip enabled and forget and click to connect to live it will not allow it. So really the answer is if it's setup properly you are perfectly safe.

PS: Compared to having a chip in your box softmodding is a big steaming pile of sh1t.

you will only be able to play modded content with the chip on - so NO xbox live with that i'm afraid. Even if you boot a modded game then turn the chip off you are still playing from a hacked bios and code.

Let me add to that.

People found a way to mod the Halo maps so that on Live they'd be uber.
They were able to place the Modded maps over the unmodded ones on the HD, disable the chip and get on live.

In that case, Bungie actually had to write code to detect the modded maps and banned map modders from Halo Live play forever.

So it is possible, it just isn't advisable.

Live is for unadulterated everything. Turn off your chip and don't change settings. It's all just fun anyway, right?

Gotta mean Halo 2... There was no live support in the original Halo, and while I've never run XBL I was under the impression it was only for games that had the built in support.

There is a collection of maps for the original Halo that I don't think are mods but complete replacements. They're popular for people playing Halo online with tunneling software such as Kai Xlink or Boxlink. These maps aren't banned (and there is no ability to do so with tunneling) but I think both host and clients need the same versions installed.

that bites oh well. i guess i'll soft and hard mod (as soon as i get one of those 3 linux games)
Why? They both accomplish the same thing. Softmodding will not allow you to play on LIVE either.
