200 gig HD not recognized in Xbox

I have a version 1.3 xbox with 2.6 xecuter, works fine, loaded x2 5035 bios for the non 1.6 versions. Loads up fine with original harddrive, i can get it to boot off of the evox cd no problem. Then once i plug the new harddrive in, it just hangs at the Xecuter config screen and doesn't go any further. I know the hard drive is good, it's brand new and i tested it. I tried every jumper setting including cable select.

I don't know why it's not reading it. I try a smaller 20 gig hard drive and it reads it fine. Is it because it's 200 gigs? Doesn't this bios know how to handle larger hd's than 137?

Any idea? Thanks a lot for the help in advance.

200GB should be fine. You are still trying to boot with the EvoX CD, correct? (rather ask than assume...)

Do you still have FlashBIOS on one of your banks? If so, does it properly detect the DVD and HDD at that level?

Is there any feedback on the HDD model you have on http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?

it's a seagate ST3200822A 200gb. The only problem some ppl had on that site was that they couldn't lock it. (More could lock it than couldn't) Everyone seemed to be able to load off of cd.

Yea, I tried to load off of a Evox cd, a evox install new harddrive cd, and a slayers cd. All booted up off cd with original harddrive and a 20gb harddrive i had laying around. None of which loaded with the 200gb drive.

I don't have FlashBios on one of the banks anymore.

Thanks Whoopin for the help, anything you can think of?

Only have one thing left I can think of, and I really have no idea if it matters at all to the Xbox. Is there anything already on this HDD, has it been used anywhere else? The only real issue I could think of had it been used elsewhere would be if it was locked to another xbox. I've never read anything about problems if a HDD was already PC partitioned/formatted, but I guess it could be giving the BIOS issues trying to read partitions.

Grasping at strings... maybe someone will jump in later with other stuff to look at.

Can you hear the drive spin? I am guessing it is a 7200 RPM drive which would use more power than a 5400. Check the voltage at the molex connector going to the hard drive to see if it is getting enough power. If you have any extra LEDs or anything, unplug them.

The drive gets power, i hear and feel it spinning. It was a brand new drive. If i put it in my computer, it recognizes it no problem.
thanks for helping, can you think of anything else?

Ok, my guess is that the harddrive is actually bad. Even though I get it to run on my pc, it is real slow.

I took a chance and hot swap hard drives in the xbox. I had a older xbox hard drive, so i started with that and an evox cd. Once i loaded off the cd, i swaped the old hard drive with the 200gig, installed hd using evox new hd cd. It took about 15 minutes to format the drive into the partitions. I was able to lock the drive, and still nothing. With the 200 gig and an evox cd, i can't get past the Xecuter config screen, not even to where it says Xecuter rox my box.

You guys think it's the hard drive as well? Sounds like it doesn't it?

When you formatted, did you put the Microsoft dash back on? If so, turn the chip off and see what error code you get. I thought you said this is a new drive.

Xbox error codes (link)

7 - kernel - HDD timeout

Sounds like the hard drive is bad, or you don't have the jumper right. I doubt that's it though if you tried all settings. I would return the drive and get a new one.

Not necesarily, go to seagate's website and see if the drive is under warranty(it should be, they usually have a 5 year warranty) and RMA it, it shouldn't matter where you bought it, I dont think they even require a receipt. I know maxtor and wd doesnt.
