Yeah, well I took my box apart this morning to insulate the 5v pin, since I heard alot of horror stories. So I turn my xbox on and it all works fine, but about 5 minutes in it starts flashing yellow. I think sh*t overheating, so I boot to X3 BIOS and I have 194 F on the CPU and 175 on the Mobo. Well it turns out the fan got unplugged. So I tear the box open within in like 20 secs, rip the negative lead out from the fan connector and stick it on the xbox case. I start up the xbox and it works thank god, so right now I'm running the 12 V mod with the case off. CPU down to 109 and mobo at 104. Moral of the story make sure your fan works.

minu usually runs at 109/104 with the fan set to 90% in xecuter bios, any higher and it's way too noisy, makes me wonder how xboxes lasted with the stock bios barely having the fan on!!

well, I have a worse story that happened to me yesterday. I heard a huge breaking sound comming from the other room, when I went in, I saw my new computer had shut off and the PC speaker was making a siren sound. I looked in my case window and saw that my huge assed heatseank somehow fell off of the processor and crashed into my $300 graphics card. I was soooo lucky that the force of the fall pulled the fan power cord out which triggered the alarm in my bios and shut down the system. Without a heatseank, I might have lost my proc and mobo. I reconnected everything and it turned out that nothing was damaged. I almost sh*t my pants.

Um if its never had problems, then no its fine though I suggest taking it up to about 30 just to keep it a little cooler inside the box.

A four-assed monkey talking about sh*tting his pants isn't something to be dismissive over. :)

Still, I lapped my heatsinks, put in arctic silver 5 and installed the Vantec Stealth fan. I'm at 119F under heavy load, idle at 109F. Not as cool as some, but my system is whisper quiet.

My buddy at work on the other hand put his system in an acrylic case (XPOD) and even with 2 80mm fans he's hitting 140F under load. Not enough to damage anything, but a cooler box will last longer...

what would you see the lifespan of an xbox with cpu running constantly above 110 farenheit and mobo always above 80 degrees? And thats with flan blowing 12v with mod on, not sure of temps with mod off though (but fan runs at normal 7v).

i have a 7200 rpm hd in my xbox and i ported out the tray so the fan blows directly on the HD... is 30% enough or should i be at like 50% fan speed. i dont want it too loud but i dont wanna overheat either

because the stock hdd doesnt put off nearly as much heat as an upgraded one....and games are played from a disk so the hdd isnt always active and heating up

I got a fan story for ya...get this sh*t...I went to EB Games to get a refurb xbox for my bud, that way its cheaper and a bit easier to install the mod. I get the mod in and start FTP'n stuff over and it shuts off...I turned it back on after about a minute it was 199F. I open it up and the power on the mobo is bad...Good testing M$. They musta tested for 2 minutes and sh*t it off saying it worked. I ordered the cable off the llamma.com for the 8v mod. But just to install the software I put a big box fan over the top of the box with the lid off and HDD and DVD layin out the back...kept that baby runnin 111F. :D

Why the heck does everyone worry about the loudness of their box??? I could care less how loud my box is!!! Is it just a preference thing? For all I care mine could sound like a jet plane!!! Just as long as its not overheating!!!
