NOTE: I'm sure that Port I/O 0x9F00 is my Xbox 360 drive -- the drive information goes away when i turn the console off and press the refresh button ([...]). The drive shows up again after i turn the console on and hit refresh again.

I did more reading. I wasn't able to find any good resource for what to do. (Maybe I'm not looking hard enough). I did find some information about reading back a spoofed drive.

Would it be correct to use the MTK Flash 32 tab (used for BENQ) to attempt to save the drive firmware since the physical drive is a LiteOn, but it shows up as a "F/W Rev: 6243" (presumably a BENQ VAD6038) drive? I should be able to follow the MTK Flash 32 steps and get a good FW dump along with the DVD key, right?

Thanks in advance.

you have indeed got a spoofed drive, and now you need to find a BenQ drive and flash it with the systems Key and updated 6243 FW, insert it into console and update will continue.

with your liteon you have, you will need a probe and perform a standard liteon dump, the benq method will not work on this drive, its a liteon pretending to be a BenQ. you still need to do the probe method as the hardware is a liteon.

once you dump the drive you will have the DVD key, then you need to build a BENQ firmware and flash it to a BENQ drive.

That's just what I was afraid of - I don't have a spare BenQ drive laying around, but I guess I can find one online for fairly cheap.

I tried to perform a standard lite-on dump with a probe, but the JungleFlasher software says "Drive type is un-determined" (presumably because this is a spoofed drive). It did manage to get the drive key and it says "Extracted drive key passed verification!". Dumping the rest of the drive firmware in dummy.bin failed, but per your description, I'm assuming all I need is the drive key anyway, correct? Other than extracting the key a few times, how do I ensure that the dumped drive key is correct?

All I need now is a BenQ drive. Time to order one, and wait a few days. I bought 2 other xbox 360's that have issues, maybe I can try to fix those while I wait! (I'll start a new thread for those).

BTW - From what I gather, I'm assuming that spoofing is not an option at this point in the process because the Xbox firmware update is expecting to see an actual BenQ drive - not a spoofed Lite on. IF, I have to spoof a drive in the future, I should ensure that updates NEVER happen on a spoofed drive, right? That should stop this endless headache cycle. And lastly, I read that Microsoft can detect a spoofed drive now, so that will just get the console banned immediately. I guess that is a good enough reason to get the correct drive in the first place.

Thank you!

You need to get an original drive that came with the console to be able to finish the update, if not you need to read the nand to get the keys and update it with JRunner.

Update:

I was able to find a BenQ drive from Craigslist for $15 USD. The drive that I got had the firmware blown away. I was able to reflash it to stock with DosFlasher (Jungle Flasher didn't read the drive correctly, even after i tried the intro/outro buttons for 30 minutes).

Long story short: this Craigslist Xbox is up and running!

Thank you for all the help guys/gals!
