I just flashed my 1.6 X3 with 2913 to banks 1+2+3+4 and i got 3 power cycles and FRAG...

I tried booting to the backup bios (eject+power) and I get to a blank screen

I think I know what I did to screw up the flash (i had all switches set to off).

What do I do now ??!!.

The X3 panel is showing a purple (blue+red) logo so I assume I'm in the backup screen but I don't get any screen prompts at all.

Do I have to FTP or HTTP to the xbox to see the backup screen ? If so, what is the default IP address that my Xbox has adopted ?

Please help !!

Did you use the correct bios, the one for the 1.6?

I wasn't aware there was a different one.

I know there was a different previous bios for the 1.6 but i didn't see a 1.6 bin file in the .rar I acquired.

My main problem is that I cannot get back to a bios flashing state because I can't access the backup screen...

If I could get the backup bios working I could reflash it with the previous bios...

:(

Boot from the backup BIOS (power and eject). Use the std AV cable, otherwise you may not see anything on screen.

If you have a 1.6b, then you'll need FlashBIOS 3.0.3 to boot. Hopefully, you would have replaced the backup BIOS with v 3.0.3 if this is the case.

Otherwise, you better hope you have 3.0.3 on banks 5+6+7+8.

Thanks for taking time to help me Martin.

I haven't changed the backup bios at all. I, maybe stupidly, assumed that it would work with this xbox.

One thing I noticed. When I boot to backup the led flashes green for a while then changes to steady orange.

As you can imagine, I'm feeling pretty sh*tty at the moment :(

I have access to a 1.0 xbox with an old 2.6pro chip.

Could I simply plug the X3 in place of the 2.6pro and hopefully get it to boot to the backup bios ?

I don't want to solder/desolder anything on this old xbox as it's a bit tempremental.

I also have access to another X3 chipped Xbox. Could I boot this xbox to the flashbios screen, remove the chip whilst the machine is still on and swap it with the "shagged" one and get the flash to work ???

As you can see, I'm clutching at straws here...

Just boot to: off on off off for bank settings, you shouldn't have that used since you said you only flashed banks 1-4.

I just tried this (off,on,off, off, off) and it fragged...

When I flashed it I had all the switches to off.

It's just dawned on me that this is the 2mb bank settings, isn't it...

I've got this horrible, horrible feeling....

Please feel free to use me as an example to others.........

p.s. will the chip switching method do me any good??!?!!

Yes, take your x3 chip to another xbox from version 1.0-1.6 NOT 1.6b to boot to the back up flash and flash on the v2913 bios. After that you might also want to flash the BACKUP flash from the Config live option to FlashBIOS v3.03 after you get the newly flashed chip back from the other xbox.

Is this a simple plug-unplug excercise on the 1.0 xbox.

As I mentioned, I don't want to do any soldering/desoldering on the 1.0 xbox otherwise I'll have 2 xboxes with their feet in the air !!

BTW thanks for the help.

yea just as simple as plug/unplug. Just take your chip from your 1.6 xbox and unplug it then take it to your 1.0 xbox and plug it into the pin header/wire install and boot to BackUp flashbios and flash the v2913 PLUS bios and remove the chip and take it back to your 1.6 xbox.

just a thought.

The X3 doesn't take it's power from the LPC like my old 2.6pro.

Will plugging it in not fry the X3?

I can't remember much about my 2.6 install as it was done quite a while ago but will the connectors fit.

Sorry if I'm asking dumb questions but I don't want to be left with a dead 1.0 xbox and a smoldering X3 chip.

Thinking about it a bit more.

My other 1.6 xbox has an X3 installed and is working fine. I could boot this to it's backup bios. hot swap the X3 over and reflash it.

What do you think?

The pin header is the same but the D0 connector isn't.....

This doesn't matter. You don't need to reconnect the d0 at any time.

Once the Xbox has booted a BIOS, you can remove the d0 connection. Therefore, you just need to boot your chip, remove it and replace with another chip you want to flash. At the very most you'd need a switch connected to it (if it's an X3 and wanted to flash to a particular bank).

So I boot the 2.6, disconnect the 2.6 from the lpc, d0 etc and simply push the X3 onto the lpc header and the flash will work ?
