It sounds like you might have some bad soldering going on, post some clear closeup pix of all your solder points, you can't rule out anything right now.

poor soldering on some of those points. use some flux next time. your points look like uve keeped the iron on to long on the solder. if u used flux it would look shiny

Got a brand new flux pen coming and QSB's, have a knackered the points do you think?

You haven't knackered the points. Your soldering is actually quite tidy. It's just the lack of flux to nicely flow the solder thats a possible sticking point. I've seen probably hundreds of installs that are soooo much worse than this and they've still worked so fear not, you've actually done quite well.

From what I can see your soldering looks fine, the QSB might make difference as Ubergeek stated that they do improve glitching, I always use them. I read my nand one time without QSB all three match, then I put the QSB in and read my nand three times and they all matched but when I compared one from wire dump and one from the QSB dump, they didn't match. I used QSB dump to build my image and was fine.
