Just to relate something I've seen others posting about.

As some other posters recounted, I was getting a blank screen with bios 3029, was getting a mysterious password with no correct answer with version bios 1959, and a flashing orange light. I tried erasing passwords, resoldering header points, everything else mentioned in several threads.
I happened to have a 2nd X3 chip. I popped it in and all the problems disappeared.
Go figure.
