Hey I just installed a Xecuter 2.3b lite+ with Xecuter 4980.67 bios on my 1.5 Xbox. I booted from Slayer's evox auto-installer fine so then i backed up my c and e partitions through ftp.
I turned every thing off and installed my new Maxtor 160 gb hard drive. When I Booted again from the auto installer it froze on the XBox screen with the Xecuter logo underneath then slowly faded into the installers main menu. When everything finally scrolled smothly on the menu screen i tried formatting the hard drive. When that was done I Looked at my partition sizes and saw that with M$ dash board and EvoX dash board installed my C partition was about 390 mb, E was about 5 gb, F was showing 0, and G was showing around 26 gb. I thought this was normal and rebooted with no auto installer disk. It stil froze on the XBox logo screen then slowly faded into the EvoX dashboard. I knew this was wrong so i booted from disk again and had to wait for it to fade in. Partition sizes still were the same showing no F drive space. I tried doing a reformat with no installation of anything. Partition sizes now showed C with around 500 mb, E with around 5 gb, F with 0, and G with 26 gb. Everything added up to about 32 gb of hard drive space. I tried several reformatings and could never break the 32 gb barrier and never got an F drive. I read the troubleshooter at Maxtor and there was some information about people getting only 32 gb out of larger hard drives but i still didn't no what to do. Can someone please help me not have to wait for it to fade in, free my Hard drive of this 32gb barrier and get an F drive. Maybe new bios? hardrive?

Hi

I would double check your drive settings on the HDD itself. My thoughts are you have the jumper set to clip to 32gb. Check it very carefully.

If your jumper settings match this, then make sure that you've either got it set to Master (top left) or Cable Select (top right) only - one of them will work. Any of the bottom configurations will cause the drive to clip, or CLJ (Cylinder Limitation Position).

My hard drive was set to cable select with no cable limitation position. Top right of your picture. So I 'am not sure if that will work because I've already tried that and still only got 32 gb

Lite-On drive won't eject!

Hey guys,

I just attempted soldering the points on my lite-on drive but after trying a few times i decided to screw it and buy the probe, but when i went to hook the drive back up to the xbox it wont eject!

Could i have messed something up on my soldering attempt?

Please tell me what I've done is reversible....

Re: Lite-On drive won't eject!

Take a picture of the area you were soldering so we can take a look. One of the resistors in the area by the tx/rx resistors is for the tray status. If you bridged this resistor with another trace/pad/via or broke the resistor off, the drive will not eject.

Cant get mine to eject also. I am also having my computer just lock up when the sata cable is attached. I have an Xtractor so i dont need to solder. Not sure if there is a conflict somewhere or not so i am formatting and reinstall all software.

Re: Lite-On drive won't eject!

Thanks guys,

After doing some more research it seems that i have severed the R710 connection which is the eject command path.

It seems that it is possible to manually bridge this connection.

I should be able to bridge the R710 with a wire and 100 ohm resistor but i am unsure as to which holes i need to bridge on the circuit board.

I am going to manually bridge the R707 and R708 temporarily in order to dump the lite-on key as the picture below shows.

Does anyone know which path i need in order to make the R710 (Eject command) path viable again?

Thanks guys,

Re: Lite-On drive won't eject!

I found someone online with a smiliar issue and his attempt is in the pic below.

Looks like he bridged 710 correctly but DID NOT use the required 100 ohm resistor.

Unless anyone objects I will duplicate the R710 path below manually and of course include the 100 ohm resistor in order to bring my lite-on back to full functionality.

It will function perfectly fine without the resistor.

Re: Lite-On drive won't eject!

Caster,

It is safer with? I was told it could possibly fry the port without it.

Re: Lite-On drive won't eject!

No, it wont fry the port without it. I repaired a friends who desoldered all of the resistors. It is no different than bridging the rx and tx, as those too had 100 ohm resistors (look at a VAD6039 PCB).

Re: Lite-On drive won't eject!

Awesome!

Thanks Caster,

Do you feel it will be a permanent fix to do it this way?

I did not plan on swapping out drives so I would like to ensure I can button everything up and the manual bridge will work properly.

Thanks again for the input

Yes, it should be fine to leave it this way and not worry about the resistors.

Re: Lite-On drive won't eject!

Great!

A few last questions:

1) What gauge wire do you recommend for the bridge?

2) R709 - (The tray status command path) no longer looks the same after my fancy solder work. The picture below has a black substance between the two points. My R709 no longer has the black substance. I do believe however that it is still working because when i hooked the xbox to my TV for testing, while the drive would not eject, the status on the screen seemed to accurately respond to me pressing the eject button on the console (tray opening, tray closing, closed, etc).

My question is does this black substance have a significant function or will my drive function reliably without it.

Thanks for all your help!
