3029 BIOS not FTPing faster

The main reason I flashed from 2914 to 3029 was a reported FTP transfer rate of greater than 10mb/s consistantly. Running FlashFXP and my xbox connected to my network through DHCP, I still get average speeds that jump around 4 or 5mb/s and top out around 8mb/s occasionaly going past 10. Assuming there aren't any issues with my network, would this be somthing completely independant of the bios or should was it not actually an advantage of 3029?

Wonder why my set up will not upload at that speed then going from PC to XboX i can not get more than 30meg loaded in 6 min.

But if i go from XboX to PC i can move 3gig in minutes.

I have to say this has only happen since i move from the 1959 every other Bios is doing the same and i have tryed a diffrant network card as well.

running the 3029Bios now every thing works ok but the PC to XboX is still slow.

any idears?

Weird thing is I get my best FTP through XBMC which goes at 10mb/s, X3 goes at around 8mb/s but jumps up to 10 every now and again. Try using FTP through different dashes as you might be surprised that one out of them seems to be faster

My setup consists of a standard 10/100 4 port router with two computers and my xbox hooked up, and my computer I transfer from has a 10/100/1000 ethernet card in it. So i know everything is at least running at 10mb/s I've tried this with the second computer off and therefore not using any resources whatsoever and still had reduced speeds. When you did your tests do you use a direct crossover connection or is it through DHCP and a router?

I made a post in the bug report thread that I'm getting a lot more timeouts on transfers, Quix can hardly connect to Avalaunch with 3029, I have to boot the 2914 bank. And even ftp within X3CL craps out after 500mb or so...

Now, I would look at my setup first... but... by day I am a network admin of a fairly large, security focused netowrk, and I need to be able to do as much at home as I can at the office... so I've got some pretty decient shtuff ;)

I do primarily use the MS Wireless adapter, but I did still have problems with Quix/Avalaunch/3029 when I ran a 50' cable to the XBox right from my primary switch. (Cisco Catylist 2950 managed switch, should be able to run my neighbourhood with that :D )

your setup is bad - i have seen countless ppl report speeds over 10 mb/s - sorry
Any suggestions based on my basic layout I described on whether or not you or anyone you heard from connected straight to a computer or through a router?

I have to agree with spyder9194. I'm topping at 8mb/sec myself and nothing higher. Got better results with bios 2913/2914.

I have also confirmed frazzyscot's statement that different dash will give different results. When I was using Evox dash, I get max of 8mb/sec. I then switched to X3 config live and get extremely fast results of 10.8mb/sec with no timeouts.

My conclusion: Teamxecuter is right on with their claims. FTP speed is dependent on the software you use so it's software problem and not bios problem. You might want to bring this matter up with the Evox team instead or whoever wrote the software you are using. As for me, I'll be using X3 Config live whenever I need to FTP large files.

Just a quick question about Qwix that may help you guys. You do have the "Use Passive FTP" box checked in the Qwix network settings right ?? It sets it strictly for data transfers instead of being an ftp server.

100mbit ethernet connections max out at 12.5MB/sec raw data. Add in the overhead for the TCP connection, IP datagrams, and FTP, and 10MB is basically the max you should expect.
Slowdowns beyond this can be caused by any number of things. FTP client and server, OS TCP/IP implementation, processor speed if not using a NIC with TCP offloading, hard drive fragmentation on both ends, and bad hardware. For thos ewithout extensive network and computer hardware knowledge, it's very tough to figure out where the location of the trouble is.

I knew from the start that Evox transfers more slowly than the X3 bios, so I tried some different FTP programs and I actually got a faster upload rate with Coffee Cup Free FTP than FlashFXP... but Coffee Cup can't download anything for me for somereason. So I'm just going to assume it's all software since people seem to be confident that's what it is and just keep trying different programs I guess.

After getting faster transfer speeds using a crappy free FTP program called CoffeeCup Free FTP I decided to flash my 5-8 banks with the 1959build and the uploaded a 175mb file with both to compare. 1959 - around 8mb/s. 3029 - around 10mb/s. So yeah, that's that. Thanks for pointing that out immediately when I first posted.
