34 yr old newbie back into XBox...too much has happened...need help

back when I did my 1st modchip...it was easy... (what ...4 yrs ago...???)

chip came with evox...just slap it in and go...hardest was getting the new, bigger hd working...

today is a whole different story...Cromwell this...bios that, bios managers, skin managers...

too much to learn...

ANYway...
Loaded the 2.6CE into a 1.6b Xbox...saw bank 1 noworky...flipped bank 2 and viola...Cromwell (whatever the hell THIS is)...great, it's sort of working...

tried the old Evox boot disk...noworky...bios not in root and not named "BIOS"...

so I burn a new disk with the "BIOS" moved and renamed...

Cromwell likes it and flashes the 1MB bios...and then FRAG...


Great...whut tha fuk now...???

its Evox 2.4 and there's no f**king instructions ANYWHERE that you buy these goddamn things from or even a simplistic COMPLETe walkthru that says ..."oh, by the way...xbox vers. "blah, blah" only work with bios "blah, blah"...make sure your bios is vers. blah, blah and has been fixxed with program "X" before reflashing...

Soooooo....
it looks like there is some "special" m8-m16 sumthin'sumthin' bios just for vers. 1.6b Xbox...???

and do I have to "Have" a certain vers. of Evox to work with that 1.6b...???

and most important...do i have to go buy a programmer to fix this mess...???

I still dont get the whole "black market, hush hush...wink wink thing"...their MY GODDAMN GAMES...MY XBOX...MY HARD DRIVE...WHAT THE f**k IS THE DEAL WITH NOT LETTING ME MOVE THE DATA FROM A CD TO A HARD DRIVE...??? WHY ARE WE FORCED TO BACK ALLEYS TO TALK ABOUT THIS...???

yeap sorry mate your either gonna have to get a programmer or do a hot swap.

ps use X2 5035 bios ( make sure its the 1.6 version)

The bios you are using is hacked code... last I heard that was still frowned upon by the powers that be... and the reason you need this "special" 1.6 bios is because M$ changed the way the xbox was made.

Don't go yelling at the world coz you messed up. Yes you messed up. Theres nothing wrong with that, but blame anyone except yourself. If you were unsure you should have checked. Now...

thanks guys...thats what i needed to know...I understand the "ramifications" of the hacked bios...so we won't go down that alley...

get the programmer...get the flashbios3.03 and get it back to "like new" status and try again...i guess...


BTW...is there anywhere I can go to just "learn" what CAN ACTUALLY BE DONE with the legit bios...not a tutorial or a walktrhu site or a bunch of garbage sites...just somewhere that says: "here's what you can do with an xbox and a mod chip"...

there seems to be a plethora of progs available...but not enuf info explaining what they do or screenshots to show how cool it is...

AND...in case anyone asks...this is an install for a buddy that thought how cool it would be to have that big stack of games (sitting beside the TV) installed on his HD...so all he has to do is turn it on and go...if there is a cheaper, better, more legit way of doing THAT...then I'm all ears...

Nah, you need a hacked bios to run backups from the hdd so this is the way to go. Theres no real website with a list like you speak of, not to my knowledge but www.Xbox-Scene.com has tons of information and tutorials, and a large forum with plenty of info as well. If you have a read of the tutorials section, just skim over them. You'll get an idea of what can be done.

XBMC with DVD2xbox and DVDx v2 with maybe an emulator or 2 is about the extent of what i reckon your friend will want.

You can read up on xbmc by clicking the link in my sig, and the other programs are really self explanetory once you get them on the xbox.

no need to flash flashbios via the programmer, just flash x2 5035_v16plus.bin, then you can just stick it in the xbox and no need to flash via flashbios.

flash the x2 bios to bank 1 (512) and flash flashbios 3.03 to bank 2 (512), then you have a 'backup' on bank 2 if summit goes wrong with bank 1.

X-Box scene is the place.

Listen to the guy that said to go to www.xbox-scene.com, loads of useful information there. I was a complete newb with no soldering experience, and after many visits to the "Tutorials" section, I had my modded xbox up and running sweetly. I have a 1.0 xbox, so it was a little easier on me as far as the chip install and bios flashing goes. Definately set him up w/ XBMC (follow the instructions to use it as a dashboard, network media file streaming works much better when XBMC is the dash. You can still load Evox from within xbmc, and also use the bios tool to set up a boot sequence with multiple alternative dashboards (3 to be exact, but M$ should probably be one of them).

no need, just turn off the chip and it will boot to the msdashboard.
