360 controller not detected

Can someone tell me whats wrong if 360 controller is not detected by the xbox. Is it the controller or the xbox? is there some way to fix the problem? Thank You

Did you hit the sync button on both the 360 and the controller?

hit the little button on the top of the controller(ring of ligh should start to circle)
Press the button on the console to the right of memory card slot b and the ring on the the 360 should spin once then flash 2-4 times then the controller will be connected.

do you know for what reason the controller stopped being detected in the first place

possible the button got pressed by accident, and sometimes i have to resync mine every once in a while. I think its normal.
