360 Freezing during Gameplay.

I've had my RGH since last winter with the exact same setup, games in the HDD and on a USB ExtHDD and alls been fine.

But lately when I play some games, the game usually freezes when I stop playing for a few mins or moving from area to area =/

Example: Playing Lost Odyssey recently and its freezing at odd points, coming in and out of cutscenes or entering/exiting houses or is I just stand there and it freezes on its own.

At first I assumed it was my HDD so I moved the game from HDD1 to USB1 and it sort of passed the points mentioned above but now its begun again, stuttering FMVs, random stutters and freezes.

My temps are usually <40c while playing. ( Watercooled my 360, I know ;D =P)
But cant see the ending temp when the freezes happen, but this cant be because of any overheating problems

I have to turn off console to regain access to 360.

I was reading some articles on how to fix freezing, note these hits were for normal non-jtag/rgh consoles (as many of the tips were get a better cooler/take it off carpet/..etc)

Clear your hard drive's cache. There may be excess data which is causing your system to lock up. Clear the cache by pressing these buttons in order: # On the Xbox 360 controller, press the following items in this sequence:X, X, Left bumper, Right bumper, X, X. A message will pop up asking if you are sure you want to perform the system maintenance. Press A to continue.

I tired this and still no dice.
I should mention I stop playing my 360 for about 3-4 months, was busy with work and PC games. =P

According to FSD3 My case temp hovers around 50-60c <<< Is this normal when my highest CPU/GPU temps are avg 40c ??

Another of the tips was to play the game without a HDD.
Now as a RGH could I do this?
Just have the game on an ExtHDD and play
The tip was for gaming via Disc, so I assume its similar to playing off a HDD and choosing the HDD as a storage device.... ?

Any ideas?

Is that really the only solution?

I had my reballed last summer.
I live in East Canada, and finding a reballer/reflower here is ridiculously rare. had to get mine done from TXer about a state away (province)

I think I may have figured out my problem.

Its a Bad Rip.
Not sure how my Rips "went Bad" its the same Rip I've used since last year-ish and they worked fine back then...

Just tried a newly made ISO and played it using the my usual method (ISO > Exiso > Folder > Drag into ExtHDD)
and I've been playing this game for the past 20mins with no stutters/freezes or anything bad of the likes.

=/
How can Rips "go bad" kind of weird and frustrating now, because I have a huge collection, about 80% are games I Ripped and either lost or gave away the Discs =( to re-rip to re-get them is going to be a pain.

My main question is can I reformat the 360 HDD, and how?
I have FSD3 on it, so how would I go about doing this.

Yeesh you shouldn't be just jumping on reflow/reball solutions so quickly =D

On an offtopic but similar category, How does one check the Region of a GOD formatted game?
Abgx seems to only work on Iso.

Easy. Check your ISO before you convert it to GOD format. If you didn't rip the game and don't have the ISO to check this, then you might have to walk the plank.
I have no clue where the ISO is, probably deleted it to save space.

I used GOd2Iso and got it back, but ABGX says I'm missing a large portion of game data, is that normal?
Considering this GOD format game works with no hitches.

onto my last question.
My main question is can I reformat the 360 HDD, and how?
I have FSD3 on it, so how would I go about doing this.

Sorry Martin, already got past that part.

I'm assuming that all rips on my HDD are corrupt in someway. as only New rips play Well.
While old rips have freezing problems.
So is it best to reformat the HDD?
How would I do this if FSD3 is running from that HDD.
I want to make sure I dont mess something up.

Oh thats it?

I assumed as its corrupted data I could just reformat and start fresh?
So if you had a corrupted movie file on your PC, you'd format the entire HDD?

Sure, it'll work but I'm sure just deleting the file will work as well.

before doing all that it is possible that your rips are perfectly fine, i would ohm check the laser pot first and i bet it reads around 5.0 ish usually causing mid game freeze especially on falcons with liteon as the lasers in them are not that reliable compared to others especially if you have already had it reballed reading neads to be around 3.0-3.5 any lower and you will damage the laser.

just noticed your off the hd so cancel the post as i thought your were using the dvd drive. good luck with it tho.

Heh Havent Ohm checked a laser since my Gamecube =D Modded it and was told to lower/raise the laser's OHM to read certain medias

I guess I was just thinking too much into it.
I concluded that the Hard drive itself was messing up and I should reformat it to clear some corrupt data that could be causing the freezes.

I'm just being critical because I have about 4-5 ExtHDD and some are about 3-4 years old and can still read the 1-2 year old data and write new data like the used to when I first bought them.

I've had the 360 RGH-ed with a HDD less than a year, and suddenly games that I used to be able to play flawlessly are suddenly unplayable.
Just puzzles me.
Its as if some "saved data" like cache or something is outdated and corrupted and only Newly added games (be it old games or newly released) only work.
