As a victim of the very well known Rrod and overheating etc,I have decided to try and safe guard my financial side of things and the Xbox slims life.
Now i know the slim has reportedly cut down on the heat output side of things but as i like to "hammer" my console when i get time ( after work etc ) i have noticed it does indeed get rather hot after 2-3 hours of online play. It reaches on average 54.8c after monitoring it for a week that is the general average temp i have seen.
Now i have opened the xbox already ready for the flashing side of things so warranty is NOT a issue for me.
I have looked around the "tinterwebz" and noticed a few people have decided to up the fan speed by cutting and soldering to 5v and 12 points . . . That is far to dodgey for my liking so all i did was cut the blue and yellow cable to achieve the speed increase and therefor increased heat dissipation. ( Well in theory
)
The bottom picture is how the xbox 360 fan is wired:
So far so good, By hand it feels a damn site cooler,My friend has pinched the ir gun for the weekend.
As per the old console it has gotten noticeably louder But only as loud as it would be if you were playing games directly off the disk so pretty good still.
Now i have a few q's some of you rather large brained lot may help me with
1.) I understand the stock fan is around 93mm's Could i in theory buy a 90mm fan and whack it it?
2.) If i were to attach a potentiometer or a device to controll speed at any given time what would it be and how?
Ld.
