Have you guys read the article on security in the 360 on xbox scene? M$ says they are making this one terribly difficult to hack from the silicon up. Tough talk or does anyone know anything?;)

Tough talk. Programming evolves, it does every day.

The same thing was said about the Saturn, PSone, PS2, XBOX, GameCube, etc.
Look at those systems now, especially the XBOX. No security will keep Hackers and Modders from breaking into the 360. It will be done, no matter what is said...we will all have SNES, NES, Playstation, Dreamcast, N64, Genesis on our X360's whether the security features like it or not.

The 360 is already going to be able to read recordable media formats so i don't think it will be that hard to crack when you figure that XBOX sales jumpped up higher and higher once people started cracking them and selling premods..not only that M$ wants to stay ahead in the gaming world and the PS3 is going to be a contender this year

not sure I understand how your comment about the 360 already being able to read recordable media formats holds any weight. Technically the original XBOX could read recordable media, didn't make it any more or less modable though? The cracking is not based on what media it can read. It is based at a deep hardware level, that's the big hurdle not the media.

my other thought is that I very much doubt it won't be that hard to crack - your argument seems to be that XBOX sales boosted when people started modding them. I doubt MS want to play that game. MS will lose money on the hardware sales, they make money on the software titles. So if people crack them, they will probably pay dodgy copies of games. Thus MS lose shed loads of money. I think they will want to try their hardest to make this uncracksable. Obviously in time it will happen, that is inevitable - but they will want to try their hardest to stop it for as long as possible.

Give it 3-4 Months after release, I'll bet we'll have something to munch on, maybe even earlier.

True but still what whould you rather do pay 120 for a used ps2 or xbox mod your box at a cost of under 100 or mod a ps2 (with hard drive ad on) and pay over 200 plus the chip. The only reason why i said it will read diffrent media formats is based on the early tech specs published by EGM though who knows for all we know they might add the pinheader and DO wire just to f#*k with us

I just can't wait till the day, that it comes out, and all the people come on here posting pics of it taken apart, and making assumptions about it's modability. Should be a VERY fun day :D

If I was in charge of 360 production and you worked for me.... you just got a huge pay rise! :D

It would add maybe 30 cents to production costs or less and be a huge "stick that up your pipe" to modders... LOL

I do wonder though if they will make it so you can run Linux on it if if the Linux dude is going to have that contest again for that 10,000 dollar reward
