I did the mod to a 250gb version which did NOT have a 4gb chip & the slot is deleted but the solder pads were there so since it was there I did the mod anyways w/ hope it'd read my larger drive... It didn't read the drive at all or turn on either of my usb drives... But it would charge devices so i just used it as a charging port since...
Recently I had a rock band wii usb hub laying around & decided to plug it in to that side USB mod port and charge up ear piece & joystick...
Well just messing around I decided to plug in the USB driveto see what it might do since the updates and all...
I went and checked storage and there was my 1tb usb drive..!
Now here is the fishy part; unplug the usb hub & plug the drive directly to the port; NADA!
Drive will not power up at all... Ok unplug that plug in charging cord for controller or ear piece charges fine..!
Ok unplug put rock band wii usb hub in and drive detects and all works well like a hub...
Just want to put the info out here... not sure where it might be best useful but i know it is something..!
To me it means that the HD is communicating w/ the system via the usb hub but does not w/o the hub; maybe something to this or it can just mean 4 extra USB ports to slap drives on...
