65nm processor/chip?

High all, I have acouple questions that've been on my mind for awhile now.. hoping you guys can help me out. I've heard that the 65nm processor/chips are going to start being used sometime this year. I have 2 questions.

1) will this make a significant difference in the ammount of heat the 360 puts off? From what I've read, most of the hardware malfunction/failure(3 red lights) has been caused my heat related issues.

2) How will I know when the newer chipsets are being used? I seriously doubt Microsoft would make any kind of announcement.. Will people on here, or other boards be able to tell the difference by looking at them?

The reasons I ask these questions.. is because I'm eagerly awaiting to purchase my first 360. I know that there's alot of good games coming out this summer/fall, and the only thing holding me back from purchasing the Elite, is the fear of having it overheat/die on me afew months later. I need this system to last, because I wont be buying a warranty.. for obvious reasons.

Any advice/input you can offer would be great

As far as I know they haven't even confirmed the 65nm chip yet let alone said they're going to start putting them in 360s this year. This was pretty much confirmed here.

All new 360s come with a 1 year warranty so buying a new Elite and having it die on you a few months later shouldn't even be a concern, they would replace it for free.

Yeah, but I have to open it up to get the firmware hack, right? Wouldn't that void the warranty?

Yes it would, but the Elite isn't going to hackable right away and no one knows if/when it will be because it's going to have either the new BenQ/Philips or the 0079 Hitachi drive.

No matter what 360 you get opening it will void any warranty.

If you were to wait for the elite you would more than likley get a drive that cannot be flashed as of yet.

Thanks for the fast responses..

Hmm, that is somewhat bad news for me then. I'm sure it was pretty obvious to you guys, but I didn't realize that I wouldn't be able to get my elite flashed. That makes me wonder if I'd be better off just purchasing a core system and the 120 gig drive seperately. But tbh, I was kind of set on the Elite system.. just because my TV only does 1080p through HDMI, and because I like the look of the black console..

Here's another question: If I did buy an Elite, would I be able to buy a dvd drive that is flashable/capatable with the 360? I'm not sure of the names/types that are flashable, but could I buy one seperately and have it replace the one that comes in the system?

Why not just buy a current flashable Prem console buy a black case, buy a 120gig HDD and flash it???

No because the drive and 360 are married with a unique key, the ability to spoof and patch the newer firmware would probably only come at the same time as the firmware itself is cracked.

I agree with Leon76, the Black Knight case is only $40 or so and maybe another $30 or so if you want to make both controllers black. As far as 1080p, very few games have 1080p as their native resolution anyway, most games are simply upscaled.

If you have your heart set on HDMI and the Elite you're probably just going to have to wait and cross your fingers on being able to flash it.

Leon76, thats what I'm considering doing now.. I just realized I couldn't flash the elite. That's probably what I'll end up doing, but instead of buying a premium I'll just buy the core and the 120gig drive... Also, I wouldn't really wanna mess around with painting anything, so I'll probably start looking for 'flat' black (or basically, same color/shade as the elite) type of case... so yeah, thats probably what I'll do

No paint, Google "Black Knight 360 case". IMO it looks as good if not better than the Elite itself. They have black controller replacement cases too. :)

bigd23, yeah I see what you mean... I guess HDMI isn't really that important.. and there's too many good games coming out to be waiting around 'hoping' that the newer drives become flashable.. So I'll probably just get the core, the big drive, and a black case... Here's one more question I have: I'm wondering if the black knight case will still fit onto my stytem when I'm using the 120gig drive? In other words, does the bigger drive stick out more, or change the general shape of the system in anyway that I wouldn't be able to use the black knight case? I guess it's too early to say with any certainy.. guess I'll just wait until it comes out! THanks for your help man

The 120GB drive will be the exact same shape and size as the 20GB. (Remember, they want everyone with an older 360 to buy it separately and upgrade. lol)
