I’m on a banned console but it says that an update is ready. How am I connecting to Nintendo servers for updates if I’m banned?

I have read somewhere (banned users has also confirmed this) that even if your system is banned, Nintendo will still allow your system to be updated to the latest firmware. Even though you can't access any of Nintendo's online services, Nintendo still wants you to enjoy your Switch, as new games get released, they will require newer/latest firmware. Since your already banned, at lease you can still go out and purchase legit retail cart games that require higher firmware, however in saying that, these new games should have the latest updates on the cart anyways for you to update.
This is pure speculation on my part only and not by other sources, something tells me Nintendo can't force your Switch to stop receiving FW updates, whatever method they are using to try and stop online updates might be affecting offline cart updates as well, so they decided to let only FW update go through.
If Nintendo blocks updates completely, online and on carts, then your Switch will be a expensive paper weight pretty soon, so at least they are in some way doing the right thing.
Then that is when ChoiDuJourNX comes into the picture

Banned users will still get update prompts. It's Nintendo's way to make their Switch no longer boot CFW. Not sure why you are getting the prompt though if you are using Stealth mode, unless there are games already with the update built in.
So you were updating game cartridges via Nintendo while booted to CFW with Stealth mode on or off, or were you booted to OFW in which case you couldn't have been using stealth mode? Just trying to figure out if there is something that needs to be reported as not working.
As far as I know there are 2 types of ban, 1 will allow game updates and console updates and the other won't allow anything at all if I remember well however both won't allow to use Nintendo online services anymore...

I believe they've changed it. People on banned consoles have been reporting still being able to get FW updates. They also used to ban accounts and consoles, now they just ban consoles. I don't think there is more than 1 type anymore. They still allow FW updates, but most likely hinder people from using CFW that are already modded. At least until updates to CFW comes out.
