A couple of questions on HDD

I might not be posting my questions in the correct "postings" with questions regarding hard disk but I could not find an appropriate place for it so I thought since I have 2.6CE installed, I might put my posting in here instead.

The questions are related to me just about putting a new 120GB HDD into my v1.6 xbox:

1. I know that the original HDD has jumper settings on "cable select". I'm currently have a 40GB HDD installed and working with the jumper settings set on the original factory. That is the settings are on "Normal". This jumper settings I think is working fine for me at the moment since I can boot the xbox, have video files installed, have games copied onto it and have them run. I however find that sometimes the xbox would "freeze" on running applications such as XBMC during video playback or games freeze in the middle of running. I've now set the jumpers to "cable select" and found that things run more stable but not really sure why this is so. I know that I've installed my 40GB HDD on "factory jumper settings" using AutoInstaller Deluxe v2 and it did not complain one bit.
2. By installing a new 120GB HDD, I think that I do not need the LBA48 (very large HDD) options right? I read somwhere that LBA48 is required for any HDD larger than 138GB. Is this correct?
3. Would it recommended to lock the HDD first before installing apps using AutoInstaller Deluxe? That is boot to FlashBIOS, lock the HDD, insert AIv2 and reboot the box.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Another unrelated question is:
- Does anyone know where I can look for information on setting up and have things running on SMB?

1. Just put the jumper on cable select. I doubt that had anything to do with your problems though.
2. Use 5035 as your bios.
3.You only have to lock the drive if you plan on playing on LIVE. Otherwise unlocked is fine.

What do you want to run over SMB?

Thanks for the reply Fantmx. I'm currently running 5035 at the moment. I've not been to LIVE and not sure if i want to or not. With SMB, I read that this is the protocol that would enable stuff such as video/audio streaming, which in return is a very useful thing instead of FTPing all the time. All I wanted to do is to run XMBC, open up say "My Music", connect to SMB share on my laptop and play the audio files direct from my laptop. I think that this is possible right? Do you know where I can find tutorial on how to do this? Thanks.

To do it using windows is pretty easy. First off, share the folders you are interested in. I have Windows XP Pro, and I had to turn on simple file sharing and for some reason I had to check the box for allow users to change files or something like that. Then open up your xboxmediacenter.xml file and find the section you want to add to. There is an example of what your entry should look like for an SMB share.
