A few newbie questions

I'm a bit tired of reading up on everything so I ask the nice people here.

1. How do I get ava or xbmc to be default dash? I'm thinking rename the files to default.xbe(?) but people warn me about that. Shoudl I just back up the original default file and put it back when I want to go live?

2. Can I go live with the x3 and a locked disk?

3. Can I switch the default dvd drive with a dvd burner and burn stuff from my xbox? That would be cool. And why is people switching the dvd drives anyway?

1. You can just change the boot priority on X3CL for Avalaunch. For XBMC you would need to copy the default.xbe and the configuration xml file into the root of a drive, then edit the xml file accordingly.

2. You would need to disable the X3 for Xbox Live, but yes you can.

3. Not unless you install Linux on your Xbox.

-> Its configiable in X3CL, you specify a drive, dir and file name to boot whatever u want.

-> Yeah but the X3 has to be disabled

-> Yeah but its just a waste unless ur running Linux and it supports a dvd burner. Ppl are swaping original XBOX drives or a samsung DVDROM that has re-flashed firmware to be xbox compatable. Sometimes u get stuck with a really crap DVDROM like the Thompson which cant read sh*t so they get a Samsung or Philips which has better media compatability

One more, disabling the x3 means just booting into regular bios after locking the disk, yes?

if u hav the switch connected,u will seee the x logo turn red. This will boot u in to M$'s bios which has the default dashboard which will let u use XBL(Xbox Live)

Also do not try to on Xbox Live if you have installed new HDD in the xbox AFTER you have already been on XBL.

Yep! Make sure the hard drive is locked, hold down the power button until the X on the switch panel turns Red. Then you should be ready for live!
