A few questions about newly upgraded hard drive

Hey guys, I recently installed a Western Digital 320 gb HD into my xbox 360 using Hddhackr. Everything worked fine but, I was wondering a few things since, I am a total noob.

1) Can I just make an image of the partitions of my old 60gb HD and Install them on my new 320gig HD?

2) I am going to install the 320gb into a different Xbox 360 that is going to be RGH'ed but, I formatted it using my current Xbox 360, will this be a problem since I had to enter my current Xbox 360s serial number to be able to format the 320gb HD?

3) I downloaded xplorer360 but, that program does it partition by partition, is this acceptable?

4) I also downloaded xport360 but, that manual says you can't just make an image of one Xbox 360 hard drive and transfer it to another xbox 360 hard drive. Is this for stock drives or does this also apply to flashed/hacked drives? Also, xport 360 gives me an error saying it failed to read the HD, either of them.

My goal is to transfer everything from my 60gb HD to mt new 320gb HD. I have games installed on my old 60gb HD. Right now, the 60gb HD is in the Xbox HD shell, the 320gb HD is just bare.

Thx in advance

1. No.
2. It doesn't matter what console you format it on.
3 & 4. You don't need to use these.

Best way by far is a USB transfer kit. It's simple to use and does the job. If you want backward compatibility, you'll need to get the HDDX partition files from the existing HDD separately.

I don't have the disc for the transfer kit. I have the cable only and, the 320gb HD is bare, it is not in a 360 HD shell.

You don't need the disc for the transfer kit. It works on any new dashboard.

Party Buffalo should be able to help with this. IIRC you can use it on the PC with the USB transfer cable. Just grab the contents of Partition 3.

Swap HDDs and copy it all back.

Ok. I am guessing Party Buffalo is software so I will check that out. I have no clue what IIRC is but I will Google it after.

Questions:

1) You say Partition 3 but, what about the other 2 partions? Don't they have to be transfered as well?

2) What is the point of making an image backup if you can't restore it to a different drive? Or does the drive have to be the same exact size?

I will update my progress after work.

Thx

1. Partition 2 is for Backward Compatibility. If you want this, you'll need to grab this too. Partition 1 is system and not used by the end user.

2. I don't trust image backups. Always better to backup files/folders.

Backward compatability for xbox(2001) games or original/commercial 360 games?

Backward Compatibility always refers to previous hardware, so Xbox1.
Ok, so basically, what you're saying is, I can use Party Buffalo to copy the contents, not the image of Partition 3 from my old 60gb HD to Partition 3 of my new 320gb HD and that I don't need to copy any other partitions except Partition 2 and only if I want backwards compatibility to play Xbox(2001) games.

Other than that, I am good to go?

P.S. What exactly is IIRC?

It's an acronym: If I Remember Correctly. Google is your friend!

When you open the main data area in Party Buffalo, you'll see Content etc.
Hehe. I actually did use google and that is what came up but, I wasn't sure if that is what you meant or not. I thought abbreviations were reserved for chat.

Thanks for the explanations and clarifications.

When I open the drive I get 4 folders, System auxiliary, System Extended, Compatibility and Data. Are each of these partitions? I thought there was only 3. Data is partition 3 and Compatibility is partition 2? What are System auxiliary and System Extended, both partition 1?

If you are installing in an rgh, you may want to skip the backwards compatability files, and install the hacked ones, that allow you to run more games, and some xbox original homebrew(DoomX, Emulators, etc).
