A Few Questions Before Buying

Hi, I am a newly registered member who is also somewhat new to console modding. I am interested in buying the product/software (although I will wait until there is Support for 7.X.X) but I had a few questions if someone could help me out:

1) The Switch in question belongs to my boyfriend, as a birthday present, although he does not mind me modding it as long as it does not prevent him from playing an occasional game online.

I suppose my question is this: Is there a way to safely remove the mod to be able to use the Nintendo Store and play online (i.e. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate), or a way to do this without removing the mod?

I do not want to get his console banned.

2) If I decide to mod the Switch, I am mainly looking to do some Memory Editing, or Save Editing, on some games like Bayonetta, Zelda, Xenoblade, etc, is that possible to do?

3) Once I do my edits (if possible), is there a way to keep them if I end up updating the Switch software to a Firmware that is not supported in the future?

I thought I read that you have to restore a backup before updating or something, so any clarification there would be much appreciated!

Any information towards this questions would be welcome as I want to be as informed as possible before I make my purchase and do something that I may end up regretting later on.

Please and thank you for taking the time to read this!

If you're going to do this and wish to go online it's not really advised as it's not clear how N detects that we are using it.

What would be more advisable is to have a 2nd switch used primarily for this.

But if you truly wish to do it.. immediately create a clean nand dump, create a hidden partition emunand on your SD card (backup your data as it will format it) and only use SX and do any cfw activities on emunand.

This is the cleanest the official system nand can be with cfw.

I've not been banned so far, but again I do not recommend if you want to be 100% safe.

Well, I specifically said I would wait until I saw Support for 7.X.X before I make a purchase, so that is a moot point.

I am simply hoping to get some information to decide whether or not I should purchase, both for safety reasons and for enjoyment reasons.

Emunand is what you want, but if you didnt want to wait, and didnt want to back up your games, atmosphere works really well, for cheats, layeredFS, homebrew(save editing/backing up, or retroarch). It has some nice features, but really needs emunand, but currently works on 7.x.x firmware. SX is also awesome, but it might be a while..... unless you wanted to backup your nand, then use atmosphere to downgrade 6.2.0, to then create an SX emunand, then write your original nand dump back. Just saying while waiting is fine there are options in the interim.

I kinda get the feeling that if by the time you ordered and received your SX Pro 7.x support will be available. That's just speculation from me though.

No option you choose is going to be 100% safe really but I think SX OS is the best cfw. Yeah you'll have to pay for it but your getting features that are not supported in the free scene. Just an obvious word of caution; if you are going to mod your switch shut off all the wifi capabilities from there on out so you don't accidently update and find yourself ever waiting in the future like so many are right now for firmware compatibility. Also nobody really wants to have a banned switch so I suggest doing your part on preventing it, but if it happens it happens, at least you tried to prevent it.

Okay, thank you for that. I think I will wait though.

What about keeping my edits and updating at a later time? Or would that be too risky? Like if I edited an in-game currency and then Nintendo released a new firmware, if I updated then would the currency edit still be there?

Or... from some screenshots and things I have read it sounds like SX OS and official firmware are separated... does that mean that I only have access to the edits while on SX IS?

Sorry for the noob questions.

Yeah, it basically means that.

There’ll be your sysnand which would have your original nintendo software without access to SX OS and homebrew etc.

And then there’ll be your emunand which would have all the above!
